Well, I ausme that's the best place to newbies to introduce themselves.
So here we go.
I am James, and from Spain.
I am an F1 and Indycar fan from long.
I started with F1 back in 1981, and noticed the Indycars back then too. It was eye-catching, it looked so similar to F1 and yet so different. It also had the added bonus that european press didn't care/know/bother/cover too much of it, what made it even more of an exotic and thus more attractive thing.
My interest depended on magazines coverage, I have an '86 magazine that covered Indy 500. Not much: some pics of the winning Marches, a nice "exploded" drawing of Emo's car and a pair of pics of Unser's Penske (the one with MLaren looks) and junior's Lola. Yet it got me very interested in a moment when I wanted to have models of... everything. Sure I keep this mag as a treasure!
I got some boosts of interest in later years, for instance when some TV stations broadcasted some '92 races, I watched Rahal's success with interest, curiously the same guy who had won '86 title and Indy 500! but particularly in a '94 Xmas trip to the US (OC, CA) when I bought some RACER mags and fell in love with '94 Penskes etc.
I know Michael from Indycals for long, and he's the one who has given me the link to this seemingly amazing site.
I love to do conversions, have a word or two to say about resin and though I am much speciallised in F1, I plan to have some day at least 2 or 3 cars from every Indy season from mid eighties onwards. I was not a fan of needle nosed modern IRL cars, but the fact that there are good diecasts to do them, plus Michael's excelent collections of pics, have been changing my mind lately.
Anyway my preferences go from 1987 to mid or late 90's.
One good thing as being european is that I have no special bias about series' split or politics, which seems to be a touchy subject. All I wish is that Indycar remains a nice and interesting championship as it's meant to be. I always was amazed that US had such a big and complete series, and all for you!
Surely my anticipated apollogies when my ignorance lets me say some inconvenience! ;-)
Other good thing is that, while at f1m for instance I can play the smart-(expletive deleted) role suposing I am an expert in eighties, (heheh) here my knowledge is so limited that I will ask thousand times more often than rather answer.
So I can simply seat, enjoy the show and learn there seems a lot to learn and watch here.
To make yourselves an idea, I was wondering how a site like this didn't exist. NOW I know it does Thanks Michael!
Oh yes:
I have family in the US: to be precise, my ouncle and aunt at Glendora Ave. in OC, CA. Russ, they are your neighbours it seems, maybe you know each other!
Anyway, a pleasure to be here!!!
