Now here's an interesting find! Decals wouldn't be too hard to do unless someone else has already made Skoal decals with a gold outline. Nic

Interesting but I'd be shocked if it sold more than one or two copies. According to records there wasn't even a driver assigned to it.

That car was driven by none other than Rocky Moran. Not sure where he finished someone would have to look that one up. Neat car though! Amazing that an '86 chassis even made the race. Who was the owner does anyone know?

Hmm... confusing... there is a race day shot of it in the Hungness yearbook as #33, but the in the qualifying photo it's number 48. Number 33 is listed as an 87 Lola Cosworth, and the 48 shows in the entry list as an 86 March, so apparently they switched numbers.

Here's the car during qualifying. It was driven by Rocky Moran and owned by AJ Foyt. Here he is in 1988 with the same car on carb day. In 1989, Moran qualified the 48 in 28th place at which point Skoal sponsored them. Since Harry Gant had immortilized the 33 as Skoal's number, they renumbered it to 33 and finished 14th. I know you probably wouldn't do the sheet Michael, but if anyone did, I would get two so I could do the before and after versions. Nic

It jumped out to me as a Foyt car, and US Tobacco is Copenhagen and Skoal (among a few others) so getting on board wasn't a far stretch.

I heard about this car, but it didn't have any pictures of the car with the Skoal logos (just the clean car as it looked for qualifying). Doing the March 86C Stan Fox drove at the 1988 Indy 500 would be more tempting though since that one apparently had a Chevy V6 stock block based engine under the hood (AJ was trying some different things back then). I guess it didn't work too well since even AJ went to Cosworths for the rest of his cars.
According to my reference, the Rocky Moran car qualified 28 (inside row 10) and finished 14th. Rocky was credited with finishing 181 laps. Sounds like it might have been a handful to drive in the race, but at least it finished and was the last chapter for the venerable March 86C at Indy.

I saw this on Rocky Moran's twitter the other day so I wondered if there was the potential for any renewed interest in it. I managed to find one of the hidden sponsor logos too. Well, I'd certainly order a few sets in 43rd scale! Bo

I would do a couple sets of the 1988 ,#48 car. I worked on it.

Get this guys. I tweeted Rocky Moran and within an hour, he asked for my email and said he would dig through some of his old photos of the car. Hopefully he finds some and emails me with them. If he does, of course I'll post some photos or sponsor logos. There are 2 logos I can't get seem to get a fix on. The "HPL" one and "the blue mountain logo near the top of the cowl. All the rest I can use from Indycals. This car and Bernard Jourdain's car are the only 2 completely different from their qualifying photos for the '89 500. I have all the logos figured for his car though...the quest goes on.
Thanks, Mike

I was invited into the Foyt garage at Long Beach in '92 by the Man himself (I was delivering his favorite beef jerky my good friend made/makes). After showing my daughter and I amazingly bruised shoulder that he broke the week before at Phoenix, he went off to take care of business and I noticed Rocky standing off to the side, like me with his young daughter. I said hi and asked when he was going to get back into "one of these things" and he smiled and said "I'm working on it."
Don't recall that it worked.
Hey, not the best Rocky Moran story but the only one I got. :-)

That is a great picture. I still cannot determine what the blue logo is with a mountain on it by the roll bar. Any ideas would be great cause I think I'm out of them.

Another observation: Rocky Moran is a tall guy, so the windscreen is much higher than usual - compare to the showcar a little further up this thread which has the standard windscreen. Also, it extends further back that the standard one.

Those last photos are the jackpot. Spectacular work team!!! If these decals ever come out or I'm able to make them, I will more than likely do 2 and send one to Rocky for responding to me like he did. Looks like Cold Mountain Storage had a fire in 2009 which may have ended them or they merged. However that logo should be close enough for scale. Thanks everyone for their help on this. Next up, Jourdain's 1989 Corona car.

Mike Well, Mike, if you ever do make the artwork for a set of decals for this car I would love to buy or borrow your work to have them printed in 1/43rd scale, too! Meanwhile, I have created a new thread called "1989 Bernard Jourdain Lola" Bo
