I started this from a glue bomb...as you will see the most difficult part will be the air scoop. I added the two NACA ducts on both sides of the cockpit, glued and flaired in said cockpit and re-shaped the nose. This is the start of the scoop( two halves of the injection cover for a well known Turd!)...how I proceed from here...I'm not sure...we'll see!

Here's another step in the process... Does anyone have 2 spare rear disc brakes for this kit? I appear to have lost mine The nose gets a re-paint today. Patrick

Very cool. I dont know anything about F5000 but what Team/driver is this going to be? Wasn't there a Jorgensen sponsored car in F5000?

Yes, this is Dan Gurney's Jorgensen Eagle F5000 driven by Brett Lunger. I saw the car race at Laguna back in...the dawn of time me thinks! "Hunt the Shunt" ( the World Champion, James Hunt) drove the newer car which was still unpainted aluminum. Simple model to to produce...just NO TIME!

Hi Calvin,
Thanks for the assistance...yes the Hunt B&W does look like Laguna, but not the air scoop I photographed!
I like the Lunger B&W as the car is a bit simpler( I wish I had the Driver for my scanner up!!).
Progress photos to follow...

Back when the MPC 68 Eagle was first released the first version I built was a Chevy sb version, still have it, Painted a reddish orange metallic and put #14 on it, remind you of anybody!! My first episode of F5000. Anybody know of a good Book that covers F5000? OH yeah Patrick I was at storage and found a MPC 68 eagle and AMT 73 Eagle built ups that I may have to rebuild as F5000

Yes! Maybe the group will have to make a category for F5000 on our lists! ;D I have the McLaren M25, working on the AAR Eagle 74A, and have the parts for a Frankenstein AAR Eagle Mk5 (Tony A to Z). Now if I can just get the Lola T70 and Ford J-Car off the work table I'll have room! Patrick

A F5000 catagory would be great as well as a Fendered Race cars or Sports Racers, like my Ford GT40 DOHC... Speaking of J-Car I was going to start the Ford MKIV but upon closer inspection the seat and firewall had been started and WELDED on, so I pulled out a Hardcastle and Mc C. Coyote and besides the Top of the body it is a identical kit includes 2 firewalls,2 intakes etc. Wrong tires and the very tip of the front of the tub has been slightly shaved for clearance of the Coyote body so now I have tons of parts to build one Detailed complete car...Stay tuned....

There is a Miscellaneous Open Wheel Racers section that F5000 would fall under. If there were a steady stream of F5000 builds then it might deserve a section by itself but for now, it will go in with the midgets and other non-Indys/F1s builds.
As far as a fender section - don't count on it anytime soon. This is the Open Wheel Racing Modeling forum after all ;D

Yes, but mant of our members build some great sports racers also. My GT40 was a 1/25th scale, 18 month build that was virtually bolted together and has more detail and scratchbuilding than almost anything I have ever built.. So, a category would be nice.....Indycals make decals for sports racers and most tips, building ideas and well a hell of alot directly relates to open wheel cars....Just saying.

I heard somewhere that the H&McC Coyote was a good source of parts! ;D I wish people wouldn't drive the prices of kits up! As for the (HUSH!!!!!!) closed-wheeled cars, try that site that Calvin turned us on to. It is much like this one only focused on my beloved CanAm, Sports-Prototype, GT, and TransAm cars. I DO like the focus of this group's models as I am a "formula fan" first and foremost. I don't care much for the F1M site. Patrick

Chris, I've had no difficulties with this group. They seem to have just started and the site has the same format as this one. rrmbforums.proboards.com/index.cgiGTs, CanAms, and Prototypes...oh my! Patrick

here was the real car at Laguna with Bret Lunger I don't know about that body language of Parnelli, but Dan doesn't seem affected! If someone knows how , would they move this post to the "other formulas" section. Patrick

Like many of you I sometimes begin a project and sit it down for one reason or another. Well, this seems like one of them! What with the new prototype F5000 Eagle kit being released I pulled the project off the shelf and began anew. I had to make some ducting for the radiators... ...ok that fits fine ...the new snorkel is maybe a bit flat, but we'll see when it's painted ...it's coming together, , oh notice the snorkel in the back? It will be fine but not tall enough I think ...it will look nice and busy back here when done ...now where is Dan going to sign it! It won't be over a year before I do my next post! Oh yes, no tall velocity stacks on this one! Patrick

Compare the snorkel of the real car and this one I made and it looks a bit short, but acceptable to me... ...a bit more work with the putty and then paint. I don't know what the number "pods" are for. I didn't take/couldn't find photos of them. Anyone have an idea? What are they on the Indy car? the F5000 has them on both sides. I assume them to be oil radiator covers, but no proof. Patrick

I love seeing the restoration run, but compare the original car with the restored one and you'll see why I don't use restored cars as a building guide. The car looks great however!

I agree, but most times you can get some clues for detail, and short of finding a time machine................
