Calvin, you have a good friend in Tim. About a month ago, a built version of this model sold on E-bay for $65 plus shipping....and yours is in better condition!! Good luck on your rebuild. Post alot of pics. I'll be watching

Do you guys think I could buff off that clear paint on the wind screen? Whenever I deal with clear parts it always makes me nervous.  |

Calvin,
Cut a small piece of tracing paper (paper you can see through) and tape it to the windscreen. Then, use a marker and carefully outline the windscreen. Once that is done, remove the tracing paper and cut it out. You now have a perfect template. Transfer the template to clear plastic and cut out your new windscreen.
Often this is much better than the original kit part because it is a lot thinner. Leave yourself a few tabs on the bottom part of the windscreen so you can glue it in place and it will stay there.
Hope I am explaning myself clearly. If not I can draw it up for you.

Calvin, tint the wind screen in transparent yellow (preference Tamiya), and check at www.gurneyflap.com. I have scratchbuilded one in 1/24 scale, not finished (the rear suspension and oil trank, air box). I made the 74 vesion. I also have a book that shows htis car in many details. Good luck ! Cheers. What did you use to strip that or was the body unpainted? No paint, just clear coat  It was very easy to clean up. The decals came right off....which were applied to the plastic. |

How about X-24 Clear Yellow? The reason I was wondering about X-8 is because I already have one, but yeah your right, it proly wouldn't thin out correctly. |

I just happened to be at Hobby Lobby last night and you can buy clear plastic in all sorts of colors. Red, blue, orange, black and even yellow! If you use the template idea, buy the clear yellow plastic and you don't have to tint anything.
Seeing your builds Calvin and some of the scratch building that you do, I am sure you have the skill.

I did a test windscreen last night and I got it very close, so I think I'll get it. As for the tinting, this car's windscreen is barely tinted yellow, I think the yellow plastic would be to much yellow. But... I still need to do some R & D on this tinting.  |

I rebuilt the engine by pulling it apart and re-gluing most everything then painted it aluminum plate with a flat black wash, then put it back together. Then I repainted most everything to give it that refreshed look  I still need to add the detail to everything...also for those that dont know the cam covers go on after I connect the engine to the tub....because it has to fit over the side of the tank.    Well, not to much I can say about the car itself besides, "Normal body work" Primer and sanding and Prepping. Its going to be a top notch job, because I'm going to have a lot of time to prep it because My decals are going to take about 7 more days or so to get here....there coming from Belgium.   Oh BTW ;D Here is my test windscreen (on left) came out OK but there's room for improvement After I know how to do it 100% correct I'll show a demo of how to do it for anyone that would like to know. |

I'm Puzzled......to say the least I got the Studio 27 decals today and......the numbers are more like a Flow Orange than a Flow Red?  I painted the cover Tamiya TS-36 because that's what I thought was correct? For the M23. Its almost like Studio 27 matched the top of the paint lid instead of the actual paint? I dont know what to think?  |

It's early in the build....repaint to match the decals. Take your time it will fine. You are a craftsman after all.

It's early in the build....repaint to match the decals. No way.....Im not painting this Mclaren, Orange. The decals are orange. Im positive that M@r1b0r0 red is Flo red. I have some ideas that I'll try tonight that will hopefully solve the problem. |

Another error with the decals I believe is that the Texaco logos should be flo-red.
When I built mine, I painted all the day glo red, except the numbers and the Texaco logos. I printed out number outlines, applied them to day-glo red decal flim and trimed out the inside of the numbers. Doing this ruined the outline, so I used a second outline to re-trim the cut out number. The Texaco logo I just printed with nothing where the red should be an likewise used day-glo red decal paper underneath.

I cut out flo decals for the M@r1b0r0 logo and the shape on the top engine cover......Im currently procrastinating doing the numbers  I can do it but it'll be a B**** (aka: pregnant female dog) For those that have mess around with Tamiya Flo red, how many coats do you do? I did 4 I also noticed it lost its glow after it dried?    |

is back in gear!
Its in very good shape for the age of build date but the only problem is the wind screen, which has clear paint on it....I still haven't figured out how to take it off
