Let me say first, I am not a Danika Fan!! But when someone puts their life on the line to entertain the fans, paying fans no less, I dont feel anyone should be Booing anyone!!! Ok We all have our likes and dislikes but Ive driven at 180+ and its not easy.. I seriously doubt 99.99% of the Fans? who booed her have been over 80mph on the freeway and I will quarentee you they wouldnt risk driving at 220+ for anyones entertainment or aproval. So like her or not no driver should be Booed.....

I totally agree with you Chris. For the sake of my Granddaughter and all my female students I Do like what Danika represents...however I don't agree with how she acts like an (expletive deleted) sometimes. Those of you who disagree... must read "The Cruel Sport", sometime and perhaps you will begin to understand what we mean.

Well guys, I think that her attitude is getting real old with a lot of fans. When she gets out of the car and throws her team under the bus what are the fans supposed to do? I don't anyone booed her driving, just her attitude. My $.02 Craig

Patrick & Chris,
I respect both of your opinions on Danica, but, the bloom is off the rose and people are now seeing her for what she really is, a spoiled brat! Not to be harsh, but Danica has brought the fans reactions upon herself. As Harry S. Truman would say, "The buck stops here!"
Heck, I was and still am a HUGE A.J.Foyt Fan and no one wore his heart on his sleeve more than A.J. did during his driving career. I never heard Foyt bash his crew once during his career....and even though no race driver should be booed, I agree, but again, no driver should never, ever bash the crew for their lack of speed on the track...even though these cars are very finicky. You are a professional race car drier at the Indy 500, and I too have driven a car over 160mph, but, as the person in the drivers seat, accept some of the blame for not going fast yourself. I was once told as a young driver by my chew chief, "They're performance and excuses, guess which one pays more?...Annnnnd, guess which one I don't want to hear anymore?
Best to you both!!
Russ

I just saw at as someone who was extremly frustated that a top notch team could not find more speed. I saw Foyt launch laptop and chew a crewmans (expletive deleted) out for miss calculating fuel, beech slap Arie (and he was complely in the wrong on that one). His fight's with PJ are legendary. I don't think she was completely in the wrong....heck it is a top notch team and they all qualified poorly.

TK is a top - notch driver and team leader. I'd love to see him win the race from 32nd position! Tom T.

I could make a lot of comments about Danica because I've seen her act at the tracks when the cameras are not on. None of my remarks would be complimentary. Without belaboring it, I think TK's comments are spot on.

Russ, I love AJ too, as we all do. But I did here him tell a TV audience once that his pit crew had their heads in a place that offered very limited visability.

The Andretti Autosport team missed the mark from the begining ending up with the highest qualified car Marcos in 17th and RH Ray behind him in 18th, my biggest problem with the Andretti's father, son and grandson is they have consistantly been major Whinners, Mario is a good driver, got lucky and won in 69, cried whinned and bitched about his cars and teams ever since, Michael a true piece of work was the first F1 driver I ever heard complain about a team and car (Mclaren) who may be the best team ever in F1 and Indy, Marco No wins no Balls, just cries. Now put a female in one of your sub standard cars and expect her to happy? In my house when they interview Michael I hear "Whaaa Whaaaa Whaaaa" until my wife will inevitably say "Put a Diaper on that Baby!!!" AJ has been a terror at Indy since day one and in my opinion shares the list of the best ever at Indy with Mears, Unsers, Gurney and a couple others (modern times 1965 up). I heard Mears call a car marginal and Penske went out and bought March's! call a spade a spade! I am not saying Danika is right but again my problem was the Fan reaction. If you want to Boo go to a Boxing match, if you want to experiance the Beauty and Speed that is the Tradion of INDY be there next week and respect the history thats unfolding in front of you!!!

Russ, I love AJ too, as we all do. But I did here him tell a TV audience once that his pit crew had their heads in a place that offered very limited visability. I remember that as well...and I still have the tape of Nazareth in 1990 where Foyt said, and I'll be censored here, "That Jeff Andretti is knock someone through the God Damn if he doesn't pull his head out of his azz!' Foyt is a real piece of work. His temper tantrums are legendary. His screaming matches with Clint Brawner, (The Original Old Curmudgeon), and George Bignotti are infamous, But.... (My original point being) No one can ever say they heard Foyt run to the PA Announcer and throw his team under the bus....EVER! Maybe it's a sign of the times that every network feels the need to get raw nerves on tape in front of the world. But what Miss Patrick did was run the bus over her team, which is not cool and got booed for it....the fans have spoken., The bloom is off the rose, so to speak. Oh, MrIndy......Foyt and Jones have nothing but the highest regard for each other, that's way Parnelli hired Foyt to drive for him in 1979.....and I was standing not more than 15 feet away when Parnelli knocked the West Coast Midget Thug, Slippy Tripp on his azz at Ventura after Tripp had chopped off Page Jones during a heat race and then came over the rub it in Parnelli's face! I also remember a favorite hero of mine getting punched in the mouth by Parnelli the day after the 1963 500 for gong up to Jones & Agajanian and saying they didn't deserve the victory......All's fair in love and war, I say. If you are man enough to put it out, you should also be man enough to take it....Like Foyt, Jones, and Sachs did. Professional Race Car Drivers run on emotion a great deal.....They traditionally aren't whiners. Best to all and I think I'm done with Danimutt...for now Russ P.S. - Big Al Unser had the best quotes about Mario I ever heard..."You know what Vintage Italian Wine is....Listening to Mario saying "I didn't have enough boost!" after the Indy 500!"

First, I'm not a big Danica fan but I have no problem with her. If she runs well, great, if not, no biggie. But... Why is everyone so against Danica? She's a better driver then some of the others. She has won a race. The car is handling poorly, how much of that really is her fault? Perhaps her feedback was not up to snuff? I've heard many a driver say "The car is handling like crap" and no one calls them out. True, the comment about it not being "her fault" was a bit over the top. My point is, people seem to hate her because she uses her looks to advantage. No one treated Anna Kournikova that way. She used her looks to become the most well known tennis player in the world and she never won a single Grand Slam. All drivers whine, some just do it with more class then others. (for those who don't know who Anna Kournikova is, here is a shot of her. Ironically, it's from SI: www.gemzies.com/upload/page_thumb/anna_kournikova_bikini_portrait.jpg)

I'll bet if Danica had said something along the lines of, "That was a pretty scary ride out there, we missed our setup somewhere", this wouldn't be such a hot topic. The key words being we and our.

Look at it this way, "Some of the Team Members" refused to have their Traditional picture take with Her! WTF this is gross missuse of the word Team!!! I would be refusing to pull the car on the grid... What's next " We didnt like what you said so we aint going to put on tires and gas, even if you are leading the race"

It amazes me how much even veteran teams were struggling this May. Outwardly, it makes you think - I mean today's Dallara chassis are just evolutions of the 2003 Dallara, right? So what's really changed? Even considering the differences in the track surface, motors, and tires - this is the 8th year at Indy with this generation of Dallara. That teams still struggle with a car they are this familiar with is a testament to the challenge of Indy.

Big Changes in Front wing width and the relocation of the rear light from the airstream to the back of the attenuatotor( trans rear) made all previous set ups and settings useless... the relocation of the light actually made it so you can get a draft from cars on the opposite side of the track because of the wind funnel created by the car circulating but you do lose more downforce close to cars in front so I would expect the race to be paced and spread out not to many packs of cars most of the day. The tires are considered the best ever and long runs should be common if they can keep the Yellows down...

As to Ms. Patrick: If she didn't have talent as a driver, she wouldn't be there. But, she is overusing her femininity when she fails. She firmly believes that she can march down pit lane and confront Wheldon because he won't retaliate in a physical way. She can throw a tantrum because she is female and can get away with it. Is she dedicated to winning?. yes. But her behavior is not acceptable if she wants to be on *equal footing* with the male drivers.
Her voyage into NASCAR country will not be as accepting as Indy car racing is. Once she gets settled there and feels like she knows what she is doing, I would strongly advise her not to throw any of her infamous tantrums. There are too many hot headed drivers there that will shove her into the wall on a consistent and regular basis. Especially when the animosity grows after dealing with her in the garage and on the race track.
Yes, she can drive, and yes, she does act like a spoiled brat. Only because she has been enabled to.

HI Chris,
I can see a true race fan booing Danika for what she said. Regardless of her emotions, she should have chosen her words better. It appears that more and more fans are no longer seeing the ppretty little girl who can drive, but are realizing that she is no different than the girl from High School who felt enabled to lord herself over the others. Her words, not her talent, will cause her the most grief in the fan base.
I would disagree that no fan should boo a driver. They are handsomely paid to be in the spotlight, and that carries some responsibility. I feel Danika has played the looks and sex card too much in her dealings with those in the sport. So much so that she feels the right to say whatever she desires, to whomever, at anytime. She has become a legend in her own mind! I applaud her abilities and what she has shown can be accomplished to all the females out there. Now it's time for her to find out just what being a role model is. There are far too many stories that show her in less that a good light to all be false.
