I know the race doesnt start for another 12 days, but no one is coming close to knocking off Ganassi or Penske for the pole and possibly the race win, which is making me wonder why is it the small teams such as dreyer/reinboldt, kv racing/ sam schmidt motorsports/panther/ and every other team besides ganassi/penske/ and andretti autosport have no hope or thought of winning the biggest race in the world.
They are all supposed to have the same car/engine combo. Its clear that the other teams dont. This is absolutely killing the IRL ifonly three teams win and no one else does
Where is the parady?

You know, the history of racing has always had "the top Teams" and I dont see it changing anytime soon. The thing about the old days was the reliability factor, that usually did effect the outcome of the race, but now a days the reliability is so good on these spec cars that it has more of a predictable outcome. Well thats how I see it The other thing about this "shorter" month of May is it dosen't give the small guys time to work out problems and discover things about there cars at the speedway.

How fast you got depends on how much money you have. Penske and Ganassi have the big bucks, so they get the best results. Maybe F1 is on to something. The front 10 cars seperated by less then a second (give or take) and in the last 3 years you have had 3 different teams winning. If the racing didn't suck, it'd be the perfect series. Oh God, did I just say that?

I don't mind Penske or Ganassi winning if it's a good finish like 2006. Panther gave the big boys a good run for their money the last two years, and I think Townsend Bell would have been in the fight last year had he gotten a break or two - he was a man possessed!

I'm resigned to ganassi/penske winning, but I really hope they don't.

Helio, Ryan Brisco, Will power, Scott Dixon and Dario Franchitti deserve as much right to win as anybody else does and i'm sure no one here wants any of afformentioned drivers to just pull over and let a small team win for once, then it would not be the greatest race in the world;it would be a sham.
Can anyone name the last time a small market team came within an wisker of winning the 500? I hope so because I thought thats what Tony George built the IRL on, the small guy getting a chance to win!

Eddie Cheever in 1998....but that was when the IRL ruled the Speedway. Did anyone else hear what the Moronic Rodeo Clown had to say about the series name change..."The IRL had a negative connotation to it, so we change it." WTF!?!?!?!?! The only one who saw the IRL Negatively was morons like the idiot rodeo clown now put in charge by the Evil Sisters from Hell! Best to all! Russ

It's Favor, Gil Favor, international rodeo man of mystery. ;D
I did see something rather entertaining today...a guy walking around the garages with a t-shirt which said, "Mrs. George Reinstate Tony". I told the guy I liked the shirt. He commented that he was probably going to get tossed out of the garages.
Seriously though, it does appear that the odds are in favor of the Ganassi and Penske juggernauts. My only hope is that Graham can manage to stay in to the end, keep up with them and nick these guys at the finish.

No one during practice can touch Ganassi
Dixon picks up one mile an hour and with that he's 3/10 of a second faster than Briscoe who is second. If you add that up over the course of 200 laps, Dixon ( though there's no snowballs chance in hell of it happening) would win by almost 1 lap.
I mean why should anyone waste their time watching this (excuse me Paul Stoddart) Bleeping Farce. It reminds me of the 2005 US Grand Prix ( all kidding aside 3 teams raced, but you get the idea) when penske, ganassi, and maybe andretti autosport are the only teams that have a chance
Does anyone want to know what real racing is, just take your memory back to 2001 and cart 500 at Fontana. That race had 73 lead changes. It also featured A smashing of the closed course speed record by Gil De Ferran (241.924)I remember I was there!
Or The recent Nascar race at talladega, that race had a record number of lead changes in it, topped by the most fantastic last lap pass since Dale Earnhardt passed Bill Elliot to win the winston in 1987 in the grass.
1989, 1992, 1999, 1982, 1987,these were the golden years of Indy in its heyday. Now the hallowed speedway has become the trough that penske and ganassi will feed on during this years indy 500.
WHAT A JOKE!

It's funny you mention 1987 as a golden year of Indy since Mario dominated like nobody in history since Billy Arnold in 1930. Lead 170 out of the first 177 laps - unprecedented in the era of bunching up under the pace car, even Montoya needed 23 more laps to come 3 laps short of Mario's total laps led. Had Mario's car not broken he would have led 193 laps, including the final 102 laps. Had there not been a bunch up rule, Mario most likely would have led every lap. Not to mention that was the first competitive year of the Chevy engine - an engine that only two teams had: Penske and Newman Haas.

At least for one day someone other than Penske or Ganassi was quickest in practice; TK posted 226.7 which is right on pace with Dixon. Can you say sandbagging?
