Hello,
Like Paul before me, I am also from SoCal, down in Temecula more specifically. Besides being new to this group, I am also releatively new to modelling as a hobby. I loved building models as a kid, but hadn't done much since I was a young teenager, other than build some kits with my young son.
All this time, I've had in the back of my mind that I would like to build a replica of a Cosworth midget my dad owned in the '80s. After seeing some incredible builds on the net (Clay Kemp's for instance), I got inspired to get serious and learn some skills. I started by building a Monogram Brad Doty kit, then a Monogram PC-1 midget, and have been trying to soak up all I can.
I've only completed three models, but have been attending model shows and joining internet boards and a local model club here in Temecula to learn as much as possible.
Since I grew up in racing and have a long extended family history in the sport of open wheel racing, I am leaning towards those type of projects (although I'm engaged on an SCCA A-Production Corvette project at the moment!). Besides my dad's midget, I'd like to do some Indy cars, and build up a Halibrand Shrike at some point.
Looking at some of the quality builds and great builders out here, looks like there's a lot that can be learned. Looking forward to it!

Watch out Art...these guys are pretty fanatical about open wheels as opposed to closed wheels (like Vettes A Prod or otherwise!) We keep such topics in the closet...isn't that correct Mong(t)o? Anyway even tho I a NorCal modeler I still welcome SoCal newbies! ;D
Ask for help and these guys fall all over themselves to help you. They are some of the best modelers in Indy, F1, F5000, asphalt,dirt...if it's open wheeled these guys do it well. (Ya, even GTOs, Vettes, Minis, or McLarens!!).
