I dont know what to think about this? I say this over and over but, I'd be perfectly fine with a 500 mile triple crown....but what do I know? I guess its just the old school in me?

Best to you!

It does seem rather bizarre. It's like splitting the series into two divisions. I too like the "triple crown" 500 series idea. Yes Russ, it appears as though "Gil Favor", IRL trail boss, has been rolling bull fritters into his cigarette paper..... ;D

Ooooooo! I want some of that! Where can I get bull fritters...at Indy HQ? Wasn't there a Triple Crown before? That's a good idea, especially as a focus on television. Most people don't have the attention span for a whole season...what was I talking about anyway...oh well, back to that Cooper.

That have it just about every other sport. Take baseball. I can't count the number they have.

I'm fine with it. People have been suggesting this for years.
And frankly, outside of F1, I couldn't care less about series championships. To me each race is it's own championship.
Just look at Joe Leonard and Mark Donohue. One was the 1972 overall champion, one was the Indy 500 champion. If you see Joe ask him what those championships meant for his career. I bet he'd trade both for one Indy 500 win.

And how about participation trophy's for all so every one feels like a champion!! At my daughters old school, when they gave a morning report on the previous day sports team report, when their team lost they would always say, "We came in second....." SECOND!?!?!? What wrong with saying we lost? I asked the head mistress what's with that and she said, "We don;'t want to enforce any negative feels with the children." WHAT BS!!!!!! I played many years of sports and even minor league baseball and sometimes, we got our butts kicked!....Did we whine about coming in second? When and if that starts to happen, IZOD Indy Car better build one huge azz podium for all the other drivers to stand on!...and I'll stop watching. Best to you! Russ

Remember it was Joe Leonard that had the great quote when his turbine, (With Graham Chapman's help) caved in late in the 68 500, Pelican Joe said to Chris Economaki, "Chris, it hurts to much to laugh and I'm too damn old to cry." Best to you! Russ

...or how about a US Born Champion/South America Born Champion/Non US & SA Born Champion? Never mind, you'll need more than a few natural born Americans to make a Championship. ;D

To me this is in line with the Triple Crown. I mean the Triple Crown called out excellence in the 500 milers. This is just recognizing the best road racer and oval racer of the year. In the open wheel sim-racing series I used to run, it was done the same way and I don't think it is a bad step for the IRL to take. I think they could better utilize their time doing monumental things for the league....

Remember Forrest Gump? Stupid is as stupid does. Let's just give everyone a trophy and not even bother running the race, Cheaper and safer. Take Care Craig

Wait a minute, I just had a great idea, let's have a championship for non-american drivers on street and road tracks, and another championship for american drivers on ovals. We could call the first one CART, and the second one IRL. Then we could start this whole mess all over, and end up right where we are now. Take Care Craig

Head'em up, mooove'em out.....Fritter weed for everyone! Seriously, it would be nice if this band of rabid bull riders would stop trying to re-invent the wheel and improve on the current model. Oh well, what more can you say...........

Ah guy......Ah, some drivers you wouldn't want to see in a swimsuit......But, my vote for hottest wife is Ashly Judd. Glad the swimsuit idea was after A.J. Foyt stopped driving. Now, I admire and respect A.J.......but in a swimsuit? Best to you! Russ

I saw A.J. at New Hampshire in 1997. He was there for the race and IMS brought his 1961 winner to the track. A.J. was supposed to take a lap or two and wave at everyone. Most of us never saw him in his prime but I can tell you he left nothing on the table that day. I will always remember him coming out of 4 at full song in a four wheel drift in this ancient roadster with God only knows how old tires, no helmet, grinning from ear to ear. He did not even fit down into the car and I'm sure he would have been happy to die right then and there, doing what he loved in the car that cemented his considerable legend.
