This was originally a glue bomb that yours truly did up last year (that I kept secret from you guys) ;D But I fixed it and its back on track I just finished up applying the indycals, which is always fun and easy as usual. So far so good! Clear goes on in two days, then the detailing will happen. This is what it looked like last night

Looks like it's coming along nicely! One of my favorite all-time Indy cars the March 86c.

Very nice!! Though it has always been considered bad luck to run green on a race car I have always liked seeing them and the Skoal bandit cars were always some of my favorites. Nice job!

Okay Johnnylightning, here's the story as best as I could find it.
It dates back to 1920 when Gaston Chevrolet was killed on the high banked n board track at Beverly Hills, California driving the Monroe he won the Indy 500 in, it was painted green. There is also some rumor as to peanuts shells also, but that is for a different time and story.
When Colin Chapman came to the Speedway in 1963 with green cars, some of the drivers would walk around them When informed of the "old adage about green race cars," Chapman replied, "They didn't have a Scotsmen driving them now, did they?" Odd thing is, the lotus Jimmy Clark died in was painted red, white and gold. Green wasn't lucky for Tom Sneva that year, he never even made the green flag, but it is a pretty car! I love racing lore.......
Best to you!

Back in 1984 Gary Bettehausen drove a lime Green March sponsored by California Cooler. Gary was asked by the media about his green car, and Gary replied that it wasn't Green, "its Unripened yellow" ;D Gary had the superstition about green evidently.

Why did Sneva crash in the first place? Something break or was it cold tires? Anybody know?

According to the DVD I have of the race, Sneva was warming up the tires and it got away from him. Not one of "The Gas Man's" best moments. Oh how I wish he was still doing the color on the ABC Races. Sneva was funny! I remember one time when a driver spun coming out of turn 4, Sneva commented on the skim marks on the track and most likely in his driver suit! LOL! He was funny!
Best to you!

Fantastic!! What thickness of styrene did you use on the rear wing and strut? Also, I did find the decals for the car I told you about. Are you interested?

Fantastic!! What thickness of styrene did you use on the rear wing and strut? On the wing I cut the original 86c wing in half. The strut is just the original 86c struts glued together, then I gave it the correct shape by sanding it. The end plates are 0.025 styrene. No, I have one already, but thanks anyway. BTW I did that Lola T8900 "how to" that you asked about....did you see it? mb2501.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=cart&action=display&thread=1779

Very nice... and since it looks exactly like the one I built, I don't have to post pics of mine Only differences is that I used a March 88C rear wing and support, and you did a little better on your turbo intake.

Quite the prolific builder - this is another good looking build. Despite turning them out quickly, you really do a nice job on them. It is nice to have you posting here all the time inspiring us to get some more bench time in!

Thanks guys. Nice to be back here even if it's in a limited role. I just spent the last few weeks moving and as we all know, that is a huge process. I have a garage to work in so I hope to get that arranged soon so i can start painting again. I still have many boxes to go through so it will still be a few weeks before you see any works from me. I do plan on going to Indy tho. I can't miss my favorite race no matter what the hurdles are.
Calvin, I like the little tutorial on the T8900. Do you have any hints on fixing the the little winglets on the engine cover so that they curve upward?
And for those that are wondering, I found a few sets of decals to do the Newman-Haas Lolas from the 1989 race. Actually its for Mario's car #5. Michael's was #6 and the numerals were in black, whereas the #5 was in red. Nice decals for a kit set and I'd really like to get a set to Michael Portaro if he is interested in re-doing this set (hint, hint).
