As most of you know the AMT Lola T8900 is not totally correct. But here is what I've done to help fix the problems.... I did this a few months ago and forgot to do this thread. So here it is ^^^^First sand down the top sides of the fuel tank as much as possible. As seen in picture ^^^^Sand back the rear part of the roll bar to the end of the black mark as see in picture. ^^^^Sand down the bottom of the roll bar. Somewhat. ^^^^Trim out the top of the cock pit sides. ^^^^Then cut out this head rest "thing" from scratch and sand out the old one. ^^^^Then stick it in there. ^^^^Maybe a little body filler might be needed. ^^^^Before and after

its a good excuse to fix all the images, it bugs me too that all my WIP threads I worked so hard to produce got completely screwed up by photobucket, I will never give them a penny.

These Lolas had different roll hoops in terms of height. It was NOT one size fits all, based on the stature of the driver. Michael Andretti’s was notably shorter for example. Just an FYI.

Yes, and that happened also later on. In 1991 it was particularly visible on Mike's car. His Indy car had the roll hoop reduced to minimal expression, while the rest of season it was reasonably sized. Was he more laid back at Indy?

I don't know the specifics but I seem to recall that one of the differences between the USAC and CART rulebooks was the necessary height of the rollhoop relative to the driver. Whatever it was, it meant that the rollhoop could be shorter at Indianapolis.

Aaaah.... thanks! Then it seems Mike's team valued aerodynamics over safety ;-)

The “89 Lola” with the picture of Michael Andretti’s ‘90 Lola is somewhat correct for an 89 Lola. While they slacked in updating the roll hoop area for ‘88 to ‘89, the rear engine cover and tire ramps are correct for a road course car. AMT must have been at a road race when they took measurements. A speedway car had smaller vents and tire ramps. The top of the engine cover has more of a curved shape like the ‘89 vs the more of a flat top like the ‘88. You can really pick out the differences with the two years on Tameo 1/43 kits.
