Here is another one of the cars on my work bench, the 1/24 1987 Ferrari Indy Test Car. I'm using a copy of the 1/43 Provence Moulage version of this car to scale it up to 1/24. Lots of work to be done, but the general shape is getting there.

I wish that car had come to be a reality in the series. Can you imagine how sweet that car would have sounded coming down the main straightaway at Indy. YEOW! Good luck with the car, I look forward to watching it progress.

Good luck with the car, I look forward to watching it progress. Actually, I was considering doing the car in Speedway trim (instead of the Road course wings). I'm not sure how Ferrari would have modified the bodywork or the shape of the wings, but I'll just take a shot at it.

Look at the AMT '86 Marches and all their '88s then use some "artistic license" to come up with end plates and what have you... Looks good BTW!!

How is this one coming ? Looks great so far. Lance Thanks Lance. I have done a little more on this one. I have built up the cockpit sides a bit and worked on getting the engine cover into shape. I was able to get a copy of the 1:43 scale kit of this car which is helping with the shape. I noticed that you have a scan of the instruction sheet for this kit posted on your web site. RussD

I'm much less accurate than you, Russ, as I will be bashing body parts together when I do my car. Do you know a official factory designation for the car. I'm also going to dump a mod-288 GTO turbo in the back of my version.
I'm looking forward to seeing your car finished to use as a benchmark for my project.

Patrick This is a bash of an AMT 88 Indy March. Lots of sheet plastic and putty. I've had to lengthen the front end a bit and the shape of the side pods is still not quite right. This will be a curb side (no engine). BTW There is also a March/Porsche P89 on the bench. It is also based on a 88 March kit. RussD

How far along in real life did this Ferrari actually get? I know it didn't race but...

How far along in real life did this Ferrari actually get? I know it didn't race but... As far as I know, it never turned a wheel in competition... it may have never turned a wheel at all. I believe it was a "power play" by Ferrari to show FISA that they were not happy about the 87 F1 rules. Ferrari was showing that they may jump to CART instead of couping with the new regulations. I have seen 1 picture of this car at Indy with Mario standing in back of it, But I have never seen the car under power on a track or with a driver on board. BUT ... it is a Ferrari. RussD

I love it, this was a cool looking car, so far your body mods look on the mark.

RussD Don't have it handy, but Rahal's book has quite a bit on it and I seem to think Alboreto shook it out on their track. Tom

Tom While I was researching this car I came upon a picture of Alboreto driving a 86/87 March. The tag on the photo said that Ferrari had purchased the car to get a "feel" for the state of Indy car handling and tech. This car was supposed to be a test bed for development of the Indy Ferrari.
