Wishful thinking-Graham Rahal. A good kid and a good driver for being only 19.

The Ganassi guys will be tough to beat - I'll go with Dixon. My longshot darkhorse: Ed Carpenter.
Who's going to the race? I'll be there!

Who I want to win: John Andretti G That's has to be one of the funniest comments ever. I take Buddy Looserrrr from p32 it's got it stink knowing you won this thing(when it didn't count) to only start from the last row next to a Foyt. ;D What a meaning lest race the best thing that could happen would be for AJ to freak out behind pit wall and the three chick to get into a cat fight then it would be worth while.

I'm not sure what "...it didn't count..." is supposed to mean. Did they disqualify his win that year? AJ freaks out every year, why would it be better if he did this year? Perhaps a cat fight in bikini's in the jello pit......I think the only loser here is IRLISAJOKE.

I'm not sure what "...it didn't count..." is supposed to mean. Did they disqualify his win that year? It didn't count because of the split none of it has the split was a joke see the whole thing was for the lower end teams would have a chance. You know all the big Penske money. But where are those teams now gone Dick Simon couldn't win it he fielded the hole grid. And it was killing Rodger not to be there so he made a deal with Tony to come back seeing Rodger owns race tracks and it increased there schedule. Now all the Big Boys are back and the low class teams are right back where they were before at the bottom of the grid. See the thing you for get is that where was the first IRL race? That's right Disney World so fitting for a Mickey Mouse series IMHO

For such an all knowing race fan you would know that you spell Roger R-O-G-E-R. You probably also know since you do know everything that Roger sold his race tracks to Nascar/ISC, but hey it's any oversight right? Since you also know so much about the 1996 Indy 500 you do realize that Derrick Walker who had also a CART team at the time ran both the Indy 500 and the US 500? Go back to crapwagon.com.
As far as winners, I'd love to see Buddy Lazier or John Andretti, but since those are my darkhorses, my money is on Dixon.

I still believe the Indy 500 is the greatest race in the world...bar none. The split never bothered me....it was still the 500 and I got to see some open wheelers whom I'd followed for years get a shot at Indy.....Hewitt, Kinser, Boat......I thought that was pretty cool. Hey they paid their dues busting (expletive deleted) on dirt all their lives. I think the rear engine invasion had much more to do with changes at Indy than the "split". The car design dictated that drivers who drove upright dirt cars were no longer the species needed to run Indy. You can't turn back time, that's just the way it is. So you can continue to piss and moan about the split or you can move on...quite frankly I'm under the opinion that you should just move on but opinions are like well......you know.

I agree with you Mr. Indy!!!!!
There is no race quite like the Indianapolis 500! I was angry at the split, angrier at this supposed reunification. With that said...Here's my almost educated guess at who will win.
The winner most times comes from one of thew big teams and from the first three rows. I also look at who's had a quiet and steady month and who drives from one of the big three teams....Thus, I'll pick Tony Kanan. My dark horse is...and I mean very dark horse is Manning.
Best to you
Russ

Man has this thread become flame engulfed! Yeah, we all know the big money guys have done what they've done since, really, the 1970's. At least there is some degree of competition again with the Champ Car guys. It may not be perfect, but at least it's something.

If you don't like the IRL or the Indy 500, you can tune into the World 600 on Memorial Day....they put on a show that ranks right up there with WWF and they run slow enough so you can read all of the sponsor logos. Boogity, boogity, boogity let's take a nap boys....zzzzzzzzzzzzz.
It does not matter what era you look at, money has always been the separating factor from the winners and losers. Money buys the best equipment, engineers, designers, drivers always has always will. Through the teens and the twenties major car manufacturers were heavily involved in the sport...the winning cars were not built in someone's little backyard garage, Marmon, National, Peugeot, Mercedes, etc. testing grounds for some serious heavy hitters in the auto industry. As the cars became more specialized racing cars factory backing dissappeared and sponsors found a lucrative place to advertise there AUTOMOTIVE products and then later any product. SO IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN ABOUT MONEY.

>>And did you know stupid IRL dirvers run into the back of the pace car during yellow.<<
Better than the US500 drivers that crashed before the start of the race and got to run back and get their back-up cars to make a full field....Thus becoming the Unlimited Start 500 from CART days.....Give me a small break! And I'll bet they can spell "drivers" correctly. If you are going to call someone stupid, better hit the spell check button.

All the comments about big money are true. But at the end of the day someone has put their life on the line to make their dream come true. Be they a NASCAR driver or an Indy driver, watching someone realize that dream is why I watch. It's about the people that drive and work long days to maintain the cars that make racing enjoyable to watch for me. Any race that ends without anyone getting hurt is a good day for me. The sport has become entertainment in many ways, but it's the people that make racing what it is. God's speed to all the participants on Sunday.

I am a longtime Penske fan so I'll put all my cheering behind Helio as Briscoe is not.... well let's just say I haven't warmed up to him yet.
