Since I started using tamiya paints I have not encountered a single problem, It has reduced the amount of painting time enourmously and every finish has come out Excellent. Russ I dont know what problems you have encountered but I have been Very satisfied with their product....Chris

That really is coming around.
The paint job, from all accounts, is a true candy color. A transparent red over the gold base. That will also give it a slightly orange tint in some lighting conditions. HOK Apple Red over HOK Solar Gold would be a great start. The Ferrari candy red probably IS slightly orange tinted.

Chris....
I guess you missed the "Old Calhoun" fiasco that I had with Tamiya Pearl White Paint, that I let dry for two days getting pulled off the model with very low tact Tamiya Tape. What a mess!!!! My only experience with Tamiya paint, and it will be my last. Good luck with you sing that stuff!
Best to you!

Really shows that a nice build can be done with $25 plastic kits and that $160+ resin 1/20s aren't required to build a nice modern F1 car. Those aftermarket decals finish off your paint great!!

Calvin, I'm constantly amazed at how you can crank all these kits out so fast. Is that all you do? ;-)

Is that all you do? ;-) The power of multitasking Plus its an easy curbside, it only took 3 hrs to get everything put together last night....'tel I have to let it sit and dry.... Maybe because I'm single? LOL ;D Work and model building. ;D thats what I mostly do....at the moment.

What a mess!!!! My only experience with Tamiya paint, and it will be my last. Good luck with you sing that stuff! Best to you! Russ In all fairness to Tamiya paints, I really think the problem arose from putting Tamiya Pearl White over Duplicolor. Tamiya is great when you use Tamiya from primer to finish, but mixing paint brands always opens up the risk of bad things happening. Tamiya cures to the layer beneath it and if there's a chemistry mismatch, it might not stick. I really think if you gave it a second chance and used only Tamiya brand throughout, you'd have a 180 degree change of heart. The other things to remember about Tamiya: To insure color fidelity, use only on white tamiya primer. Grey will alter most colors. After priming, do the first coat or two in light mists. Then you can go to town with heavy coats. If painting red plastic white, put down a coat of TS30 silver first, then white primer, then white topcoat. Tamiya metallic paints cover very well - it doesn't matter what color you paint them over. Follow these guidelines and Tamiya will be your BFF!

Fantastic finish! The only issue I seem to have with Tamiya's paint is if I mask it off; I get a tape imprint over the paint. The only way I've been able to fix it is to clear and polish it. Weird.

GI think that is a function of not letting it cure long enough. I've had that too and I just polish it out. I try to wait at least 2-3 days before masking, but sometimes I get impatient.

The only issue I seem to have with Tamiya's paint is if I mask it off; I get a tape imprint over the paint. I always bake the paint with the wall heater and let it sit in front of a fan for 24hrs. I use the the green automotive tape which is very sticky.

Congratulations Calvin!!!
A podium finish your first time out is outstanding!!! Look at it this way Calvin...you took first in class! WAY TO GO!!
One of the many reasons I dislike model contests are you don't always go against other similar models, i.e. competing against NASCAR Models with an open wheel model is just plain, unfair! With all the after market goodies the NASCAR Boys have.....like taking a resin model and competing against a Tamiya F-1 model is just plain stupid and wrong, in my honest opinion. Kind of like comparing a WW! Triplane to an F-104....very silly.
Again, good job Calvin...best of all, you have one hell of a nice model as the real trophy!
Best to you!
Russ

Congrats from me too, Calvin. I hate contests because the judges don't know (on the average) what they're looking at or are qualified to judge on the subject in question. How can a NASCRAP enthusiast judge me on a 1964 F1 car? As to the after-market photo etch, well I do agree that if you have the buck$ to spend anyone (gross exaggeration!) can build a winner out of, say some old junky toy! & LOL! Patrick PS I left IPMS because of the judging thing.

Hi Calvin,
Great looking model, and I love Ferraris!
I tend to agree with Patrick, Russ, et. al., about the judging problems. Most judges are ok guys, but they are just not knowledgeable in enough areas to really be able to handle multiple types of models in the same classes.
Great job! Mongo

Nice model You have done there. By the way, did You get the frontwing straight or did You modify It to achieve that and are the rearwing's lower elements, diffusor and rear chrashstructure decaled or painted?
