This car revolutionized Formula 1 as we know it. It was the first successful rear engined F1 car and Jack Brabham's first of 3 Driver championships. We purchased off EBid a ratty old toy made by Marx toys made in Hong Kong. First I cleaned up and dismantled the toy. Then I checked my references ( a nice 4-view was found in the VSRN site). I then began to scrounge up parts needed from my spares box and cornered the last set of size appropriate tires from my tire collection. . Well, it looks like we are ready to build. See ya next time. Wow, you really are resourceful Patrick! It is always interesting to see what you will tackle next! ;D
You have some great pieces in that part box - those suspension members are really nice looking.

The front suspension is from the MPC Hardcastle & McCormick Coyote which is a Ford Mk 4 chassis. All of my parts supplier kits are getting expensive! The AMT Lotus 29 is crazy!

Now, now Trevor. I'd like to build, perhaps, another one. Don't buy them all.

Just a little fiddling with a psudo-chassis for the front suspension and a fitting and adjusting session has the front suspension ready. Please note this Cooper has the steering arm facing the rear! Next is the rear suspension...

No...no, Russ. Give it a go! This thing has a transverse leaF spring rear suspension! Crazy, no? Such an advanced design car with an antiquated rear suspension and yet they dominated F1and F2 with their design! Patrick PS, Doing this kind of modeling takes patience and the ability to modify and fit, modify and fit. Patience is a virtue I learned in modeling after finger printing so many freshly painted bodies! LOL!! Like someone on this forum said...He's got 35 years at this! LOL...OMG! 35 years...and you'd think I would have built them all by now!

So, the rear is somewhat simple with a wishbone, two connecting links, and a leaf spring... Evergreen strips glued together with light aluminum bands super glued on... Then, two rods that will hold the conn. links... I decided to cut the under panel out to make assembly easier... I added two rods to hold the part in place when assembly time comes... Finally, a test fitting showed the leaf spring to be just that much too short! Fiddle time... ...We'll see how all goes together after painting! Cheers!

My guess is it'll look great.. To me, this is scratch- building at it's best. It's fun watching you take a toy and build it into one-of-a-kind model.. Tom T.

Patrick,
Can you tell us if Marx bought the rights to either the "Lucky" or the "Z" company in China. This looks a lot like the Cooper, BRM, and Ferrari that those companies made?

I don't know who bought out whom or shared molds with whom. I have learned to search for these crazy thing various ways and finding new ways they are listed. This is what I started working from for the Cooper T60 model...a Russkit slot car. The body is being painted and the final assembly will be soon! Patrick

Patrick,
No way in heaven or earth would I say you work is too much. You are a master craftsman and I enjoy your builds. I can't wait to meet, which will be soon, I hope. One thing I can say, you must have the spare-parts box from hell! Where do you get all the different tires and wheels? Looking forward to seeing what you do next....
Best to you!

The Spares box...it does get thin. I'm robbing unbuilt kits for discs right now for this beastie. Russ, I'm going to try and go to Chris' NNL meet in May. I'd like to touch bases with you then. Patrick

ARRGH! Just goes to humble a smart (expletive deleted)...I waited for the paint to cure(and finish the BRM) before I attached the rear suspension by "simply" popping it into place. I forgot to sacrifice to the modeling gods and as such it didn't fit at all!!! So, I took the rear suspension apart and glued one part at a time. The "parts" went together well and I went off to work the garden until all is dry.
Ciao until tonight when I post pix.

I once said the neat thing about model building is, you never know when you're going to hit a wall at 150mph! I did mine earlier this year with "Old Calhoun" build! That sucker almost hit the trash can three or four times. Sometimes, when you try to thread the needle to closely, you get bit. My sympathies to you Sir, you are still one of the best craftsman on this forum. Hey, you hit a bump, no big deal....Even Foyt didn't win every race he started....just most of them like you do! Best to you! Russ
