A few weeks ago I was surfing EBAY and came across this toy called SSP that brought back memories of my childhood. If you guys aren't familar with SSP's, they were these cars that you inserted a cogged rip cord into the large wheel and pulled like crazy. We would zoom these things down the driveway and over homemade ramps and just pretty much abuse them. I had the twin bodied car but the envy of the neighborhood was the kid that had the Indy car. Oh, how I wanted the Indy car but for some reason I never got one. Well, now that I am older and still a kid at heart, I jumped at the chance to get the one I just found on EBAY and $10 later it was mine! It arrived at my house last Thursday so I took a break from my normal stuff and three screws later had the thing apart. I washed the body, wet sanded it and then painted it Tamiya Racing Red. Some home made #1 decals and some left over STP decals and WA LA! My very own Mario Andretti SSP! It's fun being a kid even at my age! Guys, believe it or not, I designed this car as a co-op at Kenner Toys in the early 70's. I was a co-op student and later became director of design during the "Golden Years" at Kenner when we had Star Wars, Care Bears, Strawberry Shortcake etc. I worked at Kenner until 1991. It was absolutely the best job I will ever have. ( with the exception of Grant King Racing but that wasn't a "real " job.
Stu, The car looks great!!

Very cool Tom and I believe it! I came really close to turning it into Al Unser's Lightning but wanted to save those decals. Great that you designed it and a great story.

Duane,
Kind of like what they say about "dating" a fat woman, is like riding a moped......A great deal of fun to ride, but you don't want your friends to see you on it!!! ;D
Best to you!
