I started on this one right after I finished the Samsonite car. Originally this was going to be a 1988 Emerson F. RC M@r1b0r0 Lola. I tried to make my own ink jet decals, but they came out too crappy for me...so I said, screw it, I'm doing a 87 poll winner! This is my first Andretti build. So far everything is coming along very well! I painted the red on last night and this has to be the best paint job I've ever done Smooth, no dust, glossy, no scratches, no AMT Lola seam lines on the nose! I took my time and did many long nights of prep work.... prime, sand, prime, sand.... I'm also going to add as much Carbon Fiber that I can to it. Its going to have the most detail I've ever put on an Indianapolis car. Plus its the only car I have on my desk, so 110% of my attention is goin' to this Sorry for the blurry pic Filling those seams Nice, clean, easy to use, Tamiya White Surface Primer!

Great job on this one so far - the paint look excellent. Nice attention to detail on the seams Too bad the Fitti car didn't work out - that was looking nice! ;D This Hanna scheme is pretty popular since Micheal did the decals - it certainly is good to have IndyCals around! Jordan

How do you paint the inside of the cockpit and the seat with it all sealed up?

How do you paint the inside of the cockpit and the seat with it all sealed up? GJust use a basic brush and the paint flows out great. I of course paint the seat separately then right before I glue the wind screen I throw it in there.

Question: On the decal sheet what is the "half/split black circle" by the Amoco logo for?
Thanks

BTW I have the those famous decals on.....you know....they call them indycals or something like that. LOL ;D The word for this build....so far..... CLEANNote: the Rear Wing end plates, I would recommend sanding those down thin on this kit, makes it look better. I need to wait at least 2 days 'tel I clear....then after that drys I will whip out a big can of "detail" and pour all over it! then it will be done! ;D and before I forget I need to paint that Black section around the radiator.

That little decal is interesting. I never knew that. You learn something new every day.
Chaparral, 3 thumbs up on this one. The decals look great as always, the paint is great and the engine detail, especially the head covers, is excellent. Do you use dry brushing for the detail or a tiny brush?
Interesting note on the wing plates. How much do you sand them down?

Chaparral, 3 thumbs up on this one. I didn't know you had three thumbs? I used a razor blade.....just scratch the paint off to the white plastic and just used a red pen to do the bow tie ;D and used a tooth pick to paint the bolt heads. 'tel the "gluing grove" is gone on the back of it.

This explains my problems with painting.
Seriously, what did you discover by sanding down the wingplate?

Seriously, what did you discover by sanding down the wingplate? No seriously ;D just sand it down in-tel you get rid of the hole grove on the back of the end plate.

Oh! I know what your asking .....well it makes it realistic The real cars dont have 3" thick end plates.

Oh! I know what your asking .....well it makes it realistic The real cars dont have 3" thick end plates. THAT'S what I meant. Sorry for phrasing the question so oddly. Yeah, those plates are on the thin side compared to the rest of the wing. Maybe that's why the end plates that I scratch build from .020 styrene look pretty decent.

You are out-doing yourself on this one. The engine detail is great. What did you use on the wires that come off the top of the plenum? Was it spark plug wire that you painted? In any case it looks realistic. I can't wait to see what else you do with this car. As I've said many times, this is my favorite car all-time. I have the same love for this machine that Russ has for Old Calhoun, so it's really gratifying for me to see how different guys build it out. I think Greg said he was going to do this one but is going to wait. No Big G, do it. The more Hannas, the better.

Nice work with the lump. I think Greg said he was going to do this one but is going to wait. No Big G, do it. The more Hannas, the better. I have other fish to fry first. I also use .020 sheet for wing endplates. G

This is an Open Wheel Racing Modeling News [shadow=black,left,300]Update ///////[/shadow]Just new pics thats all I'm currently in "hurry up and wait" mode 'tel I clear coat...then I'm still waiting for some Carbon Fiber to show up so I can do that... Other than that I guess I will add more detail to the engine as you can see I did indeed do some more to it... also painted that black spot around the radiator.

This looks better than the real car!! The engine is getting better with each picture. What paints did you use on the plenum? And what modifications did you do to the popoff valve, since the kit piece is just a straight cylinder? And I noticed that you changed the color on the headers.

I was hoping you would use them since I'd be certain to see a good interpretation of how those things should really look. The kit instructions say to use a Silver-Blue paint, but there has to be more than that. If you did use them, at least they are removeable.

Its cleared! No problems with the clear coat! The decals are "melted on" and will be bullet proof. It came out GREAT....Sharp...Clean....Crisp....Refreshing. Now I will let that sit for a day then throw that detail on!
