C L Looks like you got the windscreen tint right I see the 89 wing is on there which helps. did you do any engine detail? Looks solid, Looks good, for all the heck you went through it I like seeing finished models But wait there's more....Im not letting you off the hook yet on this model ;D Tip of the day: if you add Model Master ACRYL dull gloss clear around the Goodyear's it will really help out your tires.

I assume you're talking about the tire decals. I was hoping someone would give me a tip on that. The decals are from Indycals and while I NEVER complain about Michael's decals, the tires don't hold the decals too well. I tried a little white glue over them and almost had another disaster. So I need to get that ACRYL? What does that do for the look?

As for engine detail, I've never done good plumbing on the engines, or the plug wires. Paint is another story. If you look real close to the next-to-last photo, there is a little of what I did. I like to do that part and Russ gave me some great tips on dry brushing which comes in handy on the gearbox and rear wing support.
On the windscreen tint, I used a tip I got from Chaparral. I used Tamiya Smoke, but his tip was to use light, mist type of sprays. 3 coats gave me the look I wanted.
Oh, one more interesting tidbit: In 1989, Pancho's back-up car WAS a 1988 Lola (according to the raceday program). I'll trust that the 1988 version never saw the track, but if anyone asks, I can alwyas tell them I did Pancho's back-up car.

So I need to get that ACRYL? What does that do for the look? Of course I meant to say dull.... not dull gloss But its made by Model Master. The ACRYL is the type of paint it is. IIRC ACRYL is the only paint that will dry to tires..... But your local hobby store should have it. Its in a clear little 1 FL. OZ jar with a black lid. This is what I do... 1. I take my brush and put one coat of this clear on both sides of tire. let sit for a day. 2. put decals on....let set for 1 day 3. put one last coat of the clear on then let sit tel' ready Thats what I do with all of my cars. This clear will melt the decals (if you will) onto the tire.

I like it. Actually I'm going to my favorite hobby store tomorrow. My daughter is giving me a gift card from there for Christmas. I'll get a bottle and try it.
Good tip. Thanks.

Wasn't me I still haven't used smoke, let alone had a successfully tint job. I think it was Mr. Secret 1988 Monogram March ;D that your thinking of.

Actually it was you, but it was more of a tip for painting the body. I just used the same concept with the smoke spray. Not only did it turn out Ok, but it dried really fast.

Trying to type through the laughter. ;D Great build Gregg. I had totally overlooked the fact that the "G2" logos were on that car. Another option for the sidewalls is Testors Dullcote #1260. It's a "lacquer" but I've never had any negative experience with it. The gloss version (#1261) is great for overcoating decals. G

I agree with Greg, but one step further:
1. Spray the tires with 1261 Testors Glosscote LACQUER (NEVER ENAMEL!)
2. Apply decals, and allow to thoroughly dry
3. Spray with Testors 1260 Dullcote (also a lacquer)
Testors 1260 and 1261, although being labeled as Lacquer is really a very *inert* lacquer. It can be used as a top coat over just about any other paint..
Enamels will never dry on a rubber tire. That is a technique NASCAR model builders have been using for decades. (as well as WWII aircraft model builders) ;D

Thanks Bill, I forgot that first part. I was thinking about the already completed tires and I had just come in from spraying a set of tires with Dullcote myself. I skipped the gloss since I stenciled the logos.
Sorry for the incomplete info guys,

Super job Double-G. Very nice paint and detailing on the engine/trans cluster. A really touching tribute!
I picked up those same tire tips from Mongo off the NASCAR site - it really works well ;D

I got mine (Yoshida) at Stradasports. The only disclaimer I'll give is that the 1/24th scale stencil which I use for AMT tires is sized for Hasegawa tires and the 1/20th scale stencil I used on the Monogram tires is sized for Tamiya tires so you'll need to adjust the stencil a bit.
