Whew!! Finally this one is done. I didn't have trouble with the car per se, but rather a well documented battle with painting and matching shades. In the end, I like how this came out even if it's brighter than it should be. I used the Monogram STP kit, and was forced ( sorry Michael) to use a couple of the kit decals. The car is really not that hard to work with. Parts flow together and the engine detail is to my liking. One thing to note: You guys are correct. This color just might be the hardest to get right and even more difficult to photograph accurately. Take a look and you'll see what I mean. Greg, thanks for arranging this Build-O-Rama. I'm enjoying doing these builds and trying new tips. I'd still be putzing around if not for this kick in the pants.

The color looks good to me. This one seem to give you more work than your Johncock lola. The color looks equal to me. Wasn't Dianetics some book? Good job

Thanks. You are correct. I think Dianetics was some kind of self-help book and IIRC, the writer was L Ron Hubbard. I remember seeing that infomercial way too often.
And yes, this color is much more difficult than the yellow of the Pizza Hut car. In the end, it's basically the same kit. The next Granatelli car I do will be a lot closer in shade to the John Andretti car that Greg (DukeCador) did.

Very nice! I remember seeing this car at Pocono in 1988. I couldn't look at the car too long. The fluorescent orange made my eyes hurt! My wife and I had a nice conversation with Roberto and Katie Guerrero that weekend. I always enjoyed the Indy cars when they were at Pocono, it was very laid back atmosphere.

Are you going to build John's car or Tom Sneva's? G

Since you did the Andretti car, and you had mentioned Sneva, Im doing the Sneva car. An interesting thing that I noticed from the race program in 1989 was the rear wing on that car had a different shape from the end plates and the wing itself looked shorter from side to side. Doing that modification is enough to spark my imagination. I ordered the decals but I'm guessing that this car won't be started until the first week of December.

Jim I meant to respond to this a few days back. Yes, yes. The very beautiful Katie Guerrero. One of the prettiest and nicest of racing wives around. And can someone tell me why they don't run at Pocono anymore? I always thought the series should have "majors", similar to golf and the 500 milers were perfect for that. Mongo, thanks for the nice words. And I'd like to think I'm using your tips properly.

IIRC they abandoned Pocono because of the boiler plate walls and interior armcos. The safety requirements of IndyCar racing has always been ahead of the tin top boys ;D
