Since the Monogram "Lola" is basically the same kit, hence the quotes. Mine will be different once it's finished though. Issue number one: A small length of .025 rod and a sprue scrap cut to size: Not too bad huh?: Once everything is painted and attached, the slight difference shouldn't be noticeable. G

I don't have slightest clue on what your going to build? ;D So you're taking this lola and turning it into a March... Right?

What did you do to get the wheels so shiny? The chrome on the Monogram kits suck and they look almost more silverlike than chrome. Also, how did you make that suspension piece look so perfect?
As for trying to guess what you'll build, I'll dive in with 2 guesses.
1) 1988 Valvoline #3 with the bad kit decals or.......
2) 1988 Kraco with the Indycals set.
Either way, I think it will be first class as all your builds are. I really enjoyed doing my last two builds which were both Monograms. In fact, I think most people should try one if they're in a rut. It brings back the fire.

I've never had a monogram kit so.....Im not to sure All I can say is your "march" looks like a Lola You gotta look at the little "winglets" on the engine cover just in front of where the rear wheels will be. That's a dead give away. And the nose is more pointed than a Lola. Two little squares just in front of the windscreen. Smaller roll bar.

You guys are setting yourselves up to be disappointed. Double G- The wheels came out of the box like that. I don't plan on leaving them like that though. As for the suspension, chalk that up to luck. Having a lot of styrene lying around helps too. G

This will be more obvious. I'm going with the Quaker State March Porsche. It's a beautiful green and white car #8. Now unless he is doing his own decals, Greg will have to use the kit set. The indycals set is for 1/25th scale.
Of course I'm just guessing that that's what this car will be.

The weather hasn't been doing me any favors the last week or so (raining hard as I type) so I haven't made the progress I would have liked to. My furnace conked out this week as well so if it's not the rain it's the cold. There isn't much to show but... I added a little more interest to the dash using bits of styrene. GThere won't be engine detail on the finished car but the cowl doesn't fit and will need to be modified.

Big G,
That's a good trick, putting the back part of the rims on first. Its also tricky to attach the spindle part to the suspension before snapping the wheel on. Everything else looks good. I've always liked your engine and gearbox detail. This is no exception.
However I'm still guessing what this car will be.

Greg's modeling day for Wednesday, 12/16:
Masked body for first color. Cut pattern unevenly. Attempted to even pattern out. Deep xacto marks left in body. Attempted to sand them down with so-so results. Reprimed area to receive color, results not too bad. Gouges appear filled. Sprayed first color, appeared okay. Smooth but not overly glossly. Hours later, tape pulled to reveal uneven masking and part of color lifted off when tape was removed. Total repaint necessary.
G
It's no big deal really. I'll wet sand it tonight, remask (evenly) tomorrow and spray it again. I'll need to mix a new batch of color but that's easy. I can't believe I actually used to get angry over stuff like this.

As an encore I broke one of the sidepods off while wet sanding.

Sorry to hear that Greg but it sounds like you have a good perspective on the hobby which should help through the frustrating parts of your builds.

The sidepod breakage turned out to be a good thing. I ended up breaking the second one off intentionally so: Now I can add some inlet block-offs and painting the first color will be a lot easier. Once I'm ready to shoot the final color I'll reglue, reputty, etc. Funny how things work out sometime.

After today's failed attempt at laying down the first color, I will be taking a break and working on my Cobra. I'm not giving up though. ;D

Even though this project is for all intents and purposes dead, I figured I would give you guys an order of wings to tide you over. Only the front speedway wing was left unmodified. I used the stock mainplanes of both roadcourse wings and reshaped the rear speedway mainplane to fit the new endplates. G
