Always liked this car when I was little...didn't see many purple cars at Indy. Jerry came oh so close to winning it all that in'72. What a crazy ending of the race for him and Dan Gurney's team. Attachments:

Nice, I've always wanted to do a Mystery eagle. If I did I would put an Olsonite fuel tank by it. LOL

That looks super! What purple did you use? It looks pretty close!

I believe I used paints from a company called Humbrol. Immixed a purple with a dark blue to get the shade. I built the car years ago and just remember mixing and spraying the cowl 3-4 times before I got close to the color. It is close enough though I was really disappointed when I realize that the real cars paint had a slight metel flake to to it. I think HobbyTown carries those paints. Thank you for the compliment! John,
At Dan Gurney's All-American Racers shop, they have a very long hallway going to the shop where they do the work on the cars. It is covered, from wall to wall with racing photos through the years Dan's had a company. Some very funny and historical things too....but the one I have looked at several times is of Jerry Grant, lat during the 72 500 and his head is flopped over to one side. Seems they didn't think of all the "G" forces that the driver would pull in those days, thus Grant's neck got tired and late in the race, Jerry's head was almost all the way over to one side. That may have something to do with Jerry Grant pulling into the wrong pit? Just a thought.
Best to you and great job on that old AMT POS!
Russ

Russ...Thanks for the stories...I really enjoy reading about your Indy experiences...keep them coming they are very interesting! A couple of places I would like to visit someday...Dan Gurney's shop and Parnelli's muesum. Do you have pictures of either or both? All the Best, John

Chaparral2K...good one on the Olsonite fuel tank...I am sure that haunted Grant his whole life.

JL82, Awesome job on your models! Seeing the purple paint and the *you name it* on the nose makes me wonder if Chris Vallo was involved....... He took every one with whom he dealt with for a ride it seems. Mongo
