As I want to keep these threads going I want to show a shelved project until the Cooper is finished. This is a F5000 Chevy powered formula car made from the great M7A Heller kit. Only a small alteration was needed to go from a F1 to a F5000. I saw many of these race here on the West Coast at Laguna, Sears Point, and Riverside. Old friends. This is an example from Britain driven by Peter Gethin for Sid Taylor. Damn they sounded go-o-o-o-o-o-od!

FlyingKiwi, you are the MAN! Grazie Mille! The photos of the restoration car are perfect, just what I need.
Patrick
PS- Love the McRae GM-1! I got to see the car race with Grahame at Laguna Seca way back in the 70's. I have almost all the parts together for a GM-1.

Glad to help, my excuse for not starting my M10 version of Graham McRae's Crown Lynn Potteries car is no longer valid now I have enough decent photos. Although I really need another M7 kit. I know a guy who has 2 and is never going to build them, but so far my attempts to relieve him of them have not worked.
I have loads of GM1 photos of all the cars currently racing in the F5000 revival series including detail shots of the mechanicals, just ask for what you require.

I've thought about turning this kit into an F5000 car - now I'll know who to bother when I start the project!! Jordan

Great looking start. I notice two versions of the engine in your pics! One is carburetor and the other has fuel injection. Appreciate if you would share the source of 1/24 Weber downdraft carburetors and manifold? What is your source for the fuel injection manifold?
Keep it going, it should look great when completed!
thanks Stephen

Stephan, Mini Exotics made a nice metal set, but they went out of business, you can still find them all over, Replicas and Miniatures of Maryland has a nice set up too, in resin. Contact Kevin at www.stradasports.com I just got a set of Mini Exotics for both Chevy and Ford..at I think about $6-$7 a set. If you have too much trouble finding a set LMK and I will see what I can do for Ya.... Chris

ARRGH! The rear tires gave a ride height like someone kicked the car in the (expletive deleted)! So I took the rear suspension apart and promptly broke the lower wishbone part. Well, back to the work bench to cobble something together. Be back soon with it finished! Let's see...

You do a lot of wonderful things but "cobble something together" is NOT one of them.

Thanks for the photos Chris. Sometimes my easy builds turn into a minor nichtmare. After getting the car on all 4 tires I hated the ride height so I took the suspension apart in the rear and then decided to modify the fronts also. Still a lot ahead... Patrick
