Scroll down and you'll see the new offering from Model Factory Hiro - the Lotus 56B turbine in 1/20. While this is an F1 version of the Lotus Turbine, it appears that a conversion to the Indy version could be done via one of the kits without the extra fuel tanks. You can also just buy the turbine engine. I might have to get my first MFH kit ;D www.club-barchetta.com/

Beautiful kit... I'd love to have a MFH Lotus or any MFH kit, but with a cost pushing $200+, they are beyond my wallet.

I'm not one to spend that kind of money on a kit, but for a MFH 1/20 turbine, I might. New pics are up since I posted this. My biggest concern for doing an Indy conversion was the wheels and tires. The wheels are fine, but the pics they have show the 1971 car with the bulging fuel tanks... and slick tires. Hopefully one of the other versions have treaded tires. Worst case scenario might call for some front tires from the MPC McLaren Can Am car.

Michael, as I said on my F1 Modeling post, I believe the best kit to start with would be the MFH version C. This kit represents the car before the fuel tanks were enlarged. Also, I am hoping that the tires from the MPC Paxton turbine kit should be perfect if the MFH kit does not come with the proper treaded tires.

Hi Paul
I'm thinking the Paxton turbine tires might be a bit wide, which is why I was thinking more along the lines of the McLaren front tires (not to mention they're more easy to obtain). In either case there should be a viable alternative, I just hope that version C has treaded tires.

Hopefully it will have the correct tires. My thinking is the Paxton Turbine car used the exact same tire/wheel size as the Lotus 56. I'll have to look at my references to confirm that. If we do need tires from the Paxton Turbine, (I have an extra set) we have a friend in Spain that does great casting work and I sure that I can talk him into a few sets of tires. Paul Erlendson

Paul Erlendson That's certainly an option, and I would much prefer resin tires.

Michael, I just sat down with a couple of my books on the turbine cars. The 1967 Paxton Turbine car used 10"x16" tires while the Lotus 56 used 9.20"x15" tires, so no joy there. I will have to compare the Paxton Turbine tires to the McLaren tires you suggested and see how they compare. Paul Erlendson PS I did shoot of an email to MFH asking if they had plans on releasing the kit in the 1968 Indy version. Fingers crossed!

I decided to ask Model Factory Hiro if they had any plans do a kit of the 1968 Lotus 56 Indy car as a few of us have expressed interest in that particular variation of the car. I just received an answer:
Dear Mr.Paul, Thank you for your email. I am happy to hear that you are interested in 53B. We think there is possibility to release Indy version later. But the release date is not decided yet. Best Regards, Kyoko Hiro model Factory Hiro
This gives me enough encouragement to hold off purchasing a Lotus 56B kit and wait for MFH to release the original version of one of my favorite race cars.
