Its a sad deal. I'm not necessarily a fan of TG but still its a loss to the series that can't afford to lose a team. Maybe he will field a car for Indy at least.
Anyone know why Menard's pulled their sponsorship?

So much for Anton's dream of the IRL making open wheel racing more affordable. This guy has stepped down from or been let go from any and all jobs he's had. I'd love to know what his future holds. Having been handed everything he's ever had, life could get pretty interesting for Tony going forward.

I think that in 2 years the IRL will be gone and the speedway will be up for sale. Except for Tony, that family cares nothing for racing, all they are after is a quick buck. My $.02 Craig

My $.02 Craig Even if you disagree with what he did, I think he at least cared about open wheel racing. I worry just as you that remaining family doesn't seem to care. What seems to be really telling is that the League has seemingly done nothing about creating a new chassis. I guess the existing team owners got tired of waiting around and decided to do it for themselves.

The lack of direction and leadership within the IRL might be what's killing it. The whole thing seems to be imploding.

Love Tony or hate him, this is not good for IndyCar in 2010. My Dad always like Ed Carpenter so I always liked when he did well.

Sounds like one of those "Please help send me to camp" campaigns. How ironic that Tony, who has never had to work for anything, is now asking for hand outs.

Oh, and speaking of Gurney, I remember when the split happened Dan made reference to all the Castle Guards and Gate Keepers around Tony that were giving TG advice. Where are they now?

Well the article is slightly inaccurate as there are still some people working over there.

Let's keep this from digressing guys.
Personally, I'm surprised someone with his kind of connections can't keep an IRL team afloat.

OK, don't start laughing, but I think Bill Simpson, Parnelli and some other well to do "old heads" should buy the Speedway to save it from the clutches of the sisters. Hire some younger guy with marketing and racing experience to run it..... No I haven't been drinking. OK you can laugh now... ;D

Racetrain...
Not as weird as you think, but.......
Parnelli was part of the group that bought the old, original Ontario Motor Speedway from a group and turn it into what is now called, Ontario-Mills Mall. Parnelli is a very shrewed business man, taught well by Mel Velitich. He'd see it as a real-estate deal .......business men do. I think that someone other than a member of the Hulman/George Family would be better off running the 500!
Best to you!

If I remember correctly wasn't Ontario sort of Parnelli's baby? Supposedly a "Speedway West"? I believe it only lasted about ten years. Not that I'd see Parnelli turning the Speedway into condos........

Racetrain,
Well, you sort of have that correct. Another group started the Ontario Motor Speedway, supposed to be the "Indy of the West,", then Parnelli bought it from them. What really ended it was the cheap Mayor of Ontario reneging on a deal to supply all the police to support the track on event days. The deal was, the city would get the parking money and they would supply the police for crowd control. After one Rock Concert...the deal was off and the owners decided to end the tracks life and Parnelli made a mint on the real estste.....
25 years later...a new track was opened in Fontana...just 5 miles away from where the original Ontario Motor Speedway stood.....Chris Etzel and I went out to see the test in the west one years and stopped at an In-N-Out Burger that sits where turn four used to be at the old track.
Best to you!
