of the 1974 Hurtubise/Miller and Carling/Hobbs McLarens. I have found a couple on the Indy 500 site and Artemis, but I'd like a couple more if possible. Any would be appreciated. Nic

The car pictured in previous post is not a McLaren It's a Coyote with the Herk's touch. Herk's 1974 McLaren was the 72 Winning car Sunoco Spl. which had the nose modified by Penske for the Short Tracks. You can find a photo in Racing Pictorial 72 Summer. Racing Pictorial also did a post card of Herk in the car in 74. The car now is in the Speedway Museum it"s the only winning Penske car that Penske doesn't own. the other picture that been hidden was a Lola .

The 1972 Indy winning McLaren is the 1974 Hurtubise entrant? That's a neat history. BTW, in the 1974 album on Artemis, you can see Mark Donohue lurking in the background in some of the pics. Nic

I think the 74 hurtubise mclaren was actually the 72 penske short track car. I base that on pics where the sunoco car in 72 clearly has the radiator hoses running on the side and there appears to be possibly an opening in the nose. these same hoses can be seen on herks 74 car. The 72 sunoco car had no such hoses at indy..bilj

I always thought that the 72 winner was the car Salt Walther flipped in 73 at the start.

I always thought that the 72 winner was the car Salt Walther flipped in 73 at the start. Much to the appall of Roger Penske, the 1972 Indy 500 Winning Sunoco McLaren now sits in the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum on loan form it's true owner, the Sunoco Corporation. Rumor has it, Penske even offered replica's of all his past winning cars to the Museum to get that car, but the Speedway Museum doesn't own it. Russ

[img src="http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu127/sbenford/Hobbs01.jpg" img] I sure like David Hobbs Carling Mclaren, I have the Fred Cady decals, but some of the makings are wrong. Mostly because it was designed around the AMT Mclaren.

Penske also no longer has the 79 winner. According to Chuck Sprague the 79 was destroyed in accidents and no longer exists. I also believe Roger's 81 winner is a replica but don't quote me on that. I do know it was in Bobby Unser's possession at one time.

Didn't Emmo negotiate to get his '93 winner, too? Jordan
