I am currently working on the old Cox 1/25(?) scale Ferrari 158 kit. Yes, the old slot car body that was issued as a full kit. It was a glue bomb that I picked up at a show that was mislabeled as an Indy car.
What I need are photos and ideas about finding a V-8 that could be used as a substitute. The "block" in the kit is just a trapezoid shaped block of plastic. I have all of the suspension parts, photos of the gear box, wheels, and exterior stuff.
I'd like to save a trip down to Barber Auto Museum to photograph it myself. Maybe someone hear already has some photos?
TIA

Dear Ace, Exactly what are you interested in? I've built 3 of these, with the NART car the more accurate. My early 158 used the incorrect Cox rear suspension, but still looks ok. I have a zillion photos of the 158, 1512, and 246...so...what do you need? As for the engine block I used the 1/25 IMC Ford GT 4-cam as you don't really see it anyway. I hope to help you with my fave F1. I'm working on Bandini's Monaco 246 and plan a 1512, too. I have some spares if necessary. Patrick

Hey Patrick,
Your engine suggestion is a good one and I have some of those. I thought of doing the NART version as well. Still deciding.
A few questions:
What color did you use for the wheel centers? Do you know why they were blue?
Did these cars have seat belts?
Did you make your own decals, scrounge them from other kits, or buy them somewhere?
Very nice builds. Great job!

Hi Ace, Ya that little 4 cam Ford does come in handy. The NART decals came from a e-slot car shop( see below). As for the wheel paint...I mixed my own flat Lt. blue exactly which color depends on the photo you look at, so you decide the correct color. In fact the red car's wheels are slightly lighter because of that. Why blue? I haven't read anything about why Lt. blue ( but it looks great with the red car!!!!). NO 64 or 65 F1s had seat belts. Most didn't in 66 either. The over knees tanks were cut out and new ones installed(looks better). Also, I built up the nose underneath because it wasn't deep enough and look wrong. I used a hole punch to make the air cooled fuel pump in the NART late car types. my damper/spring units are made using mechanical pencil springs and regular shocks from kits. Need anything else just ask. decals- www.professormotor.com/cat_reprodecals.shtml just scroll to the bottom. They have a great assortment of good decals. Patrick

Patrick,
Were the decals silkscreened or Alps Printed?
