I've debated weather or not to even show this project that I have been working on for the last 3 or so years, but here it is....Its a 1:1 scale Pennzoil chaparral 2k (curbside ;D ) that I've so far built from scratch. there is a lot things wrong with it that bugs me, but when I started on it I basically didn't know what I was doing at all, but what can I say I was 19. I made a fiber glass mold and layed fiber glass on (pic 3) that later I scraped because I wasn't happy with it....then I went ahead and built the aluminum tub and I had only one picture to reference it from the whole time which made things hard Most everything is riveted together with aircraft rivets. I built the roll hoop without a tubing bender (long story I'll only say if some whats to know ) I Machined the fuel inlet and wheel nuts. But over all a good learning experience...I haven't touched it in a few months. I should get back on it and tough it out and just Finnish it but easier said that done, especially when laying fiber glass is NASTY NASTY NASTY. Current form...... I made the seat out of hard house insulation...I carved it out the glassed it the glued felt fabric on it. The front end is totally off but Oh well Rear wing built from scratch For some reason this was th only pic I could find on the body that I did, then scraped but you get the idea.

I think you should send this story and the photos to Jim Hall. He might be flattered enough to offer some help. I really admire your ambition.

To quote my good friend Craig......"HOLY CRAP!!!!!"
What a great thing to do with your time and energy!!! What every "little" boy needs, a 1980 Winner as a conversation piece. Looks great! I wish I had the space to build my favorite Indy Car....
Best to you and good luck!

HOLY CRAP. OK you win, but what are you going to do with it when it's finished. Good question....still have to find wheels and tires for it somehow I dont have the $$$ right now to really go after them? But some day I will have right tools and knowledge to getter done. He is some more pics of the body that I scraped. The picture suck because I had to scan them off of printed paper. When I try doing the body again I'm going to go about it in more of better and cleaner way. Not like an animal like I was. ;D
