I'm interested in what others have found. I hope this might expand the scope of what we look for as possible Indy cars.
What non-Indy car kits have you found that could be converted to Indy cars? I've got a list that I'd like to share. I also have some domestic (I think) pieces that are Indy stuff. Please let me/us know what you have and think.
Here's my list. It includes the manufacture, scale, serial #,and comments as to how the kit could be converted. (need input here)
Foreign kits:
SMER-#207-1/25- '30 Alfa Romeo 158/159- likeness ran late '30's to mid '40's- beautiful box art
Bandai-#8009-1/16-Itala- '04-'07 Fiat, maybe others
Entex- ?- 1/16- Mercer- '11-'14
Imai- #1-881- 1/16- '63 Lotus Ford- Box art shows Indy suspension offset
Tamiya-#20041- 1/20- Lola T93/00 Ford - (Dick Simon-snaps together)
"Lucky" or "Z"-#2052-1/25- '61 Cooper Indy-don't know which came first. Have found nothing in any search. Anyone know anything?
Revival (plastic)-#75102 or 75103-1/20-'32-'35 Alfa Romeo (Was also the first car Enzo Ferrari was permitted by Alfa to attach his insignia to.)
Some of my domestic finds:
Ideal- ?- 1/16?- Kurtis- somewhat simplistic. Could be a detailers delight!
Ideal- ?- " - Mercedes- '38 into '40's
Aurora- #258-1/16-Mercer- '13 Mercer- also have in 1/25 no #
Lindberg- 1/16- #6605- '14 Mercedes
Strombecker- ?-1/24/25- Maserati- convert to '52 Indy Ferrari
Strombecker-#d-40-"- '38 Mercedes
Slot Car Bodies:
Modelrama-#7332-1/32- '61 Cooper Indy
Du-Bro- ?- 1/25- '64 Novi
- ? - 1/25 -'67 Sheraton/Thompson Spl.
Die-cast/Metal:
Dist. by Cary-Owens -?-1/24-Mobil 1/Cotter Racing Marcj 85C Cosworth- thru True Value Hardware stores?
Ertl- for American Muscle- #31720- 1/24- road course Indy car (has road course wings)
Buddy L- ?- 1/24?-'67 Turbine- stamped upper/lower steel shell- pretty crude but certainly different
