I'm interested in what others have found. I hope this might expand the scope of what we look for as possible Indy cars.

What non-Indy car kits have you found that could be converted to Indy cars? I've got a list that I'd like to share. I also have some domestic (I think) pieces that are Indy stuff. Please let me/us know what you have and think.

Here's my list. It includes the manufacture, scale, serial #,and comments as to how the kit could be converted. (need input here)

Hi Peteyd,

The Smer (originally Merit)Alfa Typo 158 is a late '40s F-1 that can be converted (ask oldcalhoun!) into a Maserati 8CLT like the Boyle Spl Winner. There was also an MRRN article on how to convert the Merit/Smer kit to the Typo 159.

I would love to have some ideas on converting the Strombecker Maserati to the '52 Indy Ferrari![/i][/u] ;D

I believe I have mis-informed everyone as to the Maserati-to-Ferrari conversion mentioned earlier.

In looking at my resource materials, Jonathan Thompson's, The Ferrari Formula 1 Cars 1948-1976, Pg. 24, shows a Ferrari 375 F! with stone/water shields behind the front wheels. My Strombecker models have these deflectors. I'm assuming ( you know what that can lead to) that these are actually Ferraris not Maseratis.

Having found that out, there are four significant changes to make on the model; 1) the sides of the drivers compartment need to be reconfigured lower, 2) the addition of a headrest, 3) an air scoop added to the hood,and 4) reshaping the nose.

The Strombecker slots included the Lancia-Ferrari (you know this IS a Ferrari!) and a 250F Maserati (with the splash shields). The Maser is the second version of the car (Moss drove one at Monaco in a well used photo). The first version is similar, but has a gazillion louvers all over the body and the later version (as Fangio's championship car) is much different.

A bit of work for me to tackle as a conversion.
