New to this board and could use some help. I just got an old build up of the 1935 Indy winning Gilmore special. First what would be the best way to go about getting the glue to loosen up so I can get this thing apart? Also I know that Indycals has the main decals but do they have tire decals for these? I'm kinda new to indy cars (build mostly Nascar) and any tips would be a big help. I want to rebuilt this one as accurately as possible. TIA

Hi Randy - Welcome! Try soaking the car in water and then while it's dripping wet, pop it into the freezer overnight. Any water in the joints will expand and push them apart. It won't separate everything, but it might help. If it's really old, the glue should be fairly brittle anyway. IIRC, Indycals sheet comes with tire markings (pretty sure). Maybe Michael will jump in here and confirm or deny. Russ Bundy (oldcalhoun) is an expert at saving those old Aurora/Best kits, check out his posts. Good luck!

Hi ya Randy (Bighoo)
Like Herk56 said, I have made a hobby of saving "glue-bombs" as we have come to call them. I did just recently save a 1935 Glimore Speedway Special, the old Best kit of that car. Check out the early Indy Car section of the forum. If you have any question, feel free to ask away! Best of luck to you on the save, it is a fun project!
Best to you!
Russ

HI Randy,
Good to see you here! Super Clean can dissolve the *old* glue joints. Old tube glue comes apart when soaked overnight.
Never tried the freezing deal, but many say it works good.

Randy, Per the 35 Gilmore posting I'm working on the same project. Indycals do include the tire decals. I'm not as fast as Oldcalhoun but it's coming along with a Duesy resin kit and Pensky Vett kit.
It's tough to get the old glue separated, I had to build up a new firewall and dash because of the damage pulling it apart. Lucky part is the old glue does tend to weaken with age.
Welcome to the list and good luck! Dave

Super Clean can dissolve the *old* glue joints. Old tube glue comes apart when soaked overnight. I popped a few glue joints open on my eBay glue bomb but I had it soaking like two weeks. At 1 day and about a week, the glue was still pretty strong. I probably should have waited longer for some of the more fragile pieces but that's why I have a parts box ;D LOL Jordan
