Possibly the most hoped for F1 car in 1/20 plastic for 30 years is going to be a reality... Hasegawa has announced a 1/20 Lotus 79

Its about time. This is great news! Not only one of the most historic cars but also something other than a Ferrari. Most of the older Hasegawa kits were ok. Not quite Tamiya quality or detail but you can make a pretty good looking car from any of their kits. The best news is that this is a 1/20 scale kit. Traditionally, Hasegawa has produced F1 cars in 1:24.

Great news! I'll look forward to this one. Ive never built a Hasegawa. But how are they compared to tamiya? Check out my build of the Hasegawa 1/20 312T2. As good a build as Tamiya but not quite as much detail.

As for quality of kits...
When it came to WW2 model aircraft kits, Hasegawa and Tamiya were just about the same...both were the industy standard as far as excellece is concern. I'll even, and I'm not a F-1 fan at all, will buy this sucker!
Best to you!

Hopefully, the next big news concerning this kit would be that Indycals will be making a replacement decal sheet for it. His Tamiya Lotus 78 decal sheet was the best thing that ever happened to that model!! Tom T.

we'll see how the Hasegawa decals are. My plan is this - if they offer the Player's livery, I'll do a Martini/Essex version. If they do Martini/Essex, I'll do Players. Or if they do a tobacco-less Players version I'll take care of that.

Hopefully early 2010. This Lotus 79 has been in the back of my head all day! LOL..... I need to distract myself on something else, because it'll be a long wait.

Darn. I would much prefer something like a Lotus 49. But hey, at least its not another Ferrari. The last thing we need is yet another Ferrari.

This is great news and I'm certainly on board for buying one. But, like stuboyle said, I'd like a Lotus 49 also. Or a mid '60's BRM, Brabham, or- be still my beating heart- a Gurney F1 Eagle!

I'd take the fast part of the 1967 F1 grid ;D (Brabham, Lotus, Ferrari, Eagle, etc) Though I still want to do a winged Lotus 49B... lol

At least the Lotus 49 has been released in 1/12 scale.
Last I heard the Hasegawa 79 is due out in the third quarter of this year.

I have the Lotus 49B in 1/12 from Tamiya and I sold my two 1/25 49Bs I had (same kit in Union and Heller boxings) to board members here.

This could explain why it's taking Hasegawa so long to come out with theirs. I bet they're mighty pissed right now. I wonder if they will even continue work on it now. G

I have an order on the way from them. I'll let you know how it works out. I would have gone with HLJ but their prices were higher on the things I wanted. G
