Hey Guys, Any advice as to which color/brand green is best for Skoal Bandit Green? I am converting a Carousel 1 Rick Mears 84 March into Teo Fabi's Skoal Bandit.
Thanks, Stu

If you have an airbrush, Testors green in the little square bottle.

Hmmm, no air brush. Actually I have one but hate using it..err..cleaning it. Was hoping that Tamiya spray had a color. I have the Testors green in the bottle but I think that may be to bright?

Stu,
I used just plain old testors in the rattle can on my 86 Sneve Skoal march. I posted pictures in another thread here if you want to take a look. I may look a tad light due to the flash but look right on when looking at it.

If you can find the old Model Masters in a can for the NASCAR kits they had a skoal green. You can also get it from Model Car World. I have heard Testors Beret Green is a very close match. Nic

Thanks Eric, I did see the color on your Bandit and it looks great. I saw the Testors at the Hobby Store over the weekend and it looked to bright. (on the cap anyway) Since the 84 Bandit was partly white I fear that the bright green will really show up against/over white. A google search sent me no where so I will just have to look a bit harder I guess.
Thanks for the tip scalecentral. I will look into that as well.

Tamiya TS43 racing green might work well, a bit darker than Testor's green. I used it on my Williams FW07

Mike when do you sleep? Lord, what haven't you built? Have you done anything poorly, (your photography is even bitchin'). Your work is super clean.

Michael is the Man, Patrick. Love his stuff. Yesterday I bought a Rustoleum Hunter Green that looks very close to your Williams green Michael. I am scared to death to try it though! I am fearful that it will be too dark. I only have a few pictures of the actual car and both show the green as being darker than say the Sneva or John Andretti cars. Anybody have any pictures of the 84 Skoal Bandit? I have a lot of the 83 car but the 84 are rare?

Stu, Where do your decals come from? I'm looking at a really good photo of the 1987 or 1988 Indy car. To me the key is the logo with the hat. The hat itself is darker than the body color (almost a black) while the hat band (with the white SKOAL script) is the same color as the body. So your paint should match the hat band. Hope this helps.

When I am unsure if a color is going to match, I spray it on a piece of styrene scrap first. Make sure it is primed the same as the body though. G

That's what I do but I use several scraps and use different color primers to see the difference. You'll be amazed at how much primer color can affect the final color. You might find a green that is close but not dark enough over regular gray primer, but if you spray it over dark gray or black primer it will darken it just right. HTH!

Thanks Guys but I think I finally found the perfect green. Krylon Emerald Green.
Not to bright & not to dark. Hope to have the conversion done in the next couple of weeks.
It's sad that Carousel 1 may not be around much longer. They only offered the Mears winning March although I heard thru the grapevine that they had a 84 Micheal Andretti Kraco prototype in the works but it will probably never materialize.
So many possibilites since most of the 84 field drove a March. Rahal, Johncock, Holbert, Michael Andretti, Unser Jr & Sr, Ganassi, Fabi, Sneva, etc...
I want to do as many of these March cars as I can afford and prices are really good for them right now. Next up will be the Unser Sr Miller car but I would really like to do Johncock's STP. Heck, I want to do them all but my decal skills are no where near Michaels. (hint...hint...) ;D
