I have always had mentors is whatever I've done. Whether it was seeking out advice when I started coaching ice hockey or more recently, working under a master trainer when I became a personal trainer, I've always seeked out the best advice possible. So it has been a real treat for me to get to talk to Russ over the past few months. His stories, tips and inspiration have spurred me to try a few things that I have never thought I could do. One of my next few builds will be a roadster, so in that respect, I'll be the "anti-Russ". I'll give it a shot for the Build-A-Rama.
If you've never had the chance to talk to him, and he is a busy guy, be prepared to spend more than a few minutes on the phone. I did tonight and wished I could have talked another hour.

I'll add my $.02. Russ is the best, but I still like Dan Gurney better.

Okay......all I can say is thank you guys.
I must give credit to my mentor and master builder, Bob Clidinst. I try to follow Bob's example of, "What good is knowledge if you don't share it?" Bob is an amazing guy, great friend and has forgotten more about Indy Cars than most of us will ever know. Bob always has an encouraging thing to say about what some one is building. He's never critical or rude, always encouraging, and if you have ever seen Bob's work, you'd be amazed!
All I can say is this, one time I was at The Pasadena Molders Societies "Model Con" contest and a guy who I was friendly with did a beautiful job on an old Revell WWI Fighter. He had scratch built part on the kit, a really nice job on it and I asked him how he did it? Well, this "friend" said, "I'd tell you but then he have to kill you after I do." He was being really weird as well. So I quickly nodded and said, "Okay, I understand. I mean, if I made that mistake I would want to tell others how to avoid it. It just I don't want to make the same mistake on the one I'm currently working on, that's all." This guy followed me around for the rest of the day and the next 3 times I saw him as well. Bob has always said, "Share what you know, it can't ever hurt you."
Best to you all, and again, thank you.
Russ
