I have recently ordered a number of the Autocourse CART books from Amazon.com for very little money. Many go for less than $10 with shipping being $3.99 per book. Many are particularly helpful for modelling the Revell Reynards but there are a couple books that go back into the late 1980's which might be useful for modelling some of the AMT kits.
Here is one example, I bought the 1988-1989 book (I think it really the 1989 season), for $2.32 + $3.99 shipping for a total cost of $6.31. Try to beat that price!
Here is another one: Autocourse Official History: Cart: The First 20 Years, 1979-1998 $4.01 + $3.99 shipping. Total cost $8.00!

I have 1988 -1989 and its great, anyone know if they made a 1982 (covers 1981)? The oldest I ran across with 87-88 season, other than the book I noted about which covers 20 years from 79 to 98. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think 81-82 would be the 82 season, so if you looking for 81, you would need 80-81. I don't know why they do that, just to confuse people I suppose.

Its strange but back in the early 80's, they put the year ahead on the cover just like how they put a November magazine out October. Covers 1980 Covers 1982 I have both of these and there great! There is some on ebay which I would highly recommend lots of color pictures and some great info about each race!

Now I'm getting addicted to buying books. It seems most are very cheap which feeds the addiction. I just bought:
Inside Racing: A Season With the Pacwest Cart Indy Car Team" Paul Haney
for $5.99 + $3.99 shipping. I don't think it has any pics but it does look like a good read.

Unfortunately, the books you mention cover the early to mid 80's which are a dry spell as far as available model kits are concerned. You have the PC-6's for '79, then you have to wait until '88 for the March 86C, I THINK. Correct me if I'm wrong.
