Guys what causes fish eyes to form in paint jobs. Using Tamiya primer and paint. Frustrating. Thanks.

Fisheyes are caused by surface contamination, or contamination of the paint itself, by oil, mold release, or other foreign material. Even your skin oil can contaminate a surface and cause fisheyes. The best way to prevent them is to make sure you clean the parts you are painting with some type of degreaser, or strong detergent or soap. Also try not to handle the parts with your bare hands, but use latex gloves.

Thanks. I stripped it and washed with Dawn and rinsed it well. Then wiped it down with acetone. The re-spray went well.

Perfect. I know it's a pain-in-the-(expletive deleted) to do, but it's always a good idea the clean the kit parts before you start a new build. Another thing you might want to do is buy a tack rag. After you sand and clean the part you wipe it with the tack rag, which catches small dust particles, and you'll have much less dirt in the finish. Naturally, you would only use the tack rag on the larger parts, such as the body, hood, etc., not the suspension components, frame, etc.

I've come to discover with my resin, that if I wipe it down with 99% isopropyl alcohol it cleans very well.
