Some of us knew Gary Doucette when he made kits under the Front Motor label. I was not close to Gary then but became better friends when he reappeared with Oval Track Legends. Gary was a special person in so many ways and he forgot more about Indy cars and Indy racing than I will ever know. I loved what he did for us with the unique kits he blessed us with. Here is the rest of the story. One of my bookmarks on eBay is Indy 500 resin under Models and Kits. About two weeks ago, one of Gary's kits popped up from an estate sale. I never knew about this kit. Rex Mays was one of my childhood heroes so the kit got my attention. The kit was a Front Motor Rex's Rocket, a famous Ascot Speedway car of the early 1930s. Gary loved this era and these cars. I followed the ad for several days, bought it, and the kit arrived Saturday. Now, the story gets better. As you know, Gary loved to include personal notes and this kit had one too. It began with "Hi Fred -" which got my attention too. The only Fred I knew on this forum was Fred Lombardo who made magnificant figures of drivers, crew members, etc. I had the good fortune to meet him just before Covid hit at the spring model show in Indy. A search found an undated Chicago Tribune obituary for Fred. So, a good thing happened to me. Gary did this kit maybe 30 years ago and maybe Fred bought one. Now, I can tell myself a story of how it came to me. Good things happen on this forum because of all of you.... Jim

Congrats! I saw that kit, but am not in a position to buy too many kits right now. I still have all my Front Motor catalogs and correspondence with Gary from that time. He did SO much for us Indy modelers.
