Hi finished the next one, just in time for the month of may, Dan Gurneys Lotus 29, driven in the 1963 Indy 500. I got the recent reissue of the AMT kit that is about 60 years old... but it's not a bad kit, cosidering that age, with one big (literally) exception: the tires. The kit tires are comic-like, much too big, using them would give the ground clearance of a Dakar-Buggy. Fortunately the 3D printers nowadays make it possible to quickly design and print some replacements; see the kit tire on the left with my tires on the model. I also printed some acessories: a better steering wheel, lids for the reservoirs, the wing nuts and especially the buckles and adjusters for the seat belts. 2 hours design work, printing a build plate full of belt parts and you are set for the rest of your modeling life. The rest was not so difficult to build, you can certainly add more details, especially the area in front of the dashboard, etc... but I only added the belts and some cables, wire end ferrules for the intakes and a mesh on top of it; that mesh was only visible in one of the pictures I found, but I liked that. In general, it was difficult to find period pictures in color to find out which paint to use. Painted with TS26, the blue stripes are painted with a mix of TS15 and 23, the Gray was also a TS, several Alcald colors and Molotow Chrome. Decals are from Indycals and Mr. Super Clear on top. Hope you like it.

Marco, it is a great looking build. Your detail work is top notch and I am sad you did not show it all off.

That looks very nice. Really nice. I just bought that kit when I was down in Spokane a couple of weeks ago. (haven't started it yet) I did not know the tires were that oversized on it. I don't have access to a printer so would like to know if you could tell me where I can get some aftermarket tires that will look better than the kit's.

That's probably the best example of that car I've ever seen WITHOUT the use of the Indycals/Classic Racing Resins kit! Excellent work!

I'll be referencing your build a whole lot once I start mine. ( hope you don't mind ) I ordered the detail-up set from ClassicRacingResins as soon as I got that link from PJE.

I wish it were, I'd buy two of them. But they're "out of stock".

I'm prepping my Lotus and hoping you can tell me what the little recessed fixture in the bottom of the seat right between the driver's legs would be is. What a strange place to put something like that.

Excellent job you did with this. Truly is one of the best I have seen on this kit.
