Another resurrection of a parts kit. Some bits are broken but I think most of it is there. It's an early Tamiya kit which builds a fairly accurate version of the original 49. There are substantial differences to a later 49 or 49B. No nose cone nostrils, no wings, different cowling and windshield, and the proper ZF transmission. Oddly, the suspension arms have mounting points for the wings which shouldn't be there, but a grinder took care of that.
This is what I got in a box.

These kits were motorized, so the footwell is a battery compartment. I left it alone, as I found out when building my Siffert car that you can't see any of my fancy modifications when the car's completed.
The tub I just sanded and resprayed, but the cockpit had to be stripped, I guess it was enamel paint. Some effort but it worked.
Redone with some detailing

Front end needed some improvising and a few steel pins, but I think it came out OK
Decals from Indycals, thanks Michael as always.
Now to fix the motor.
cheers Paul

The Model Miracle Worker is at it again! It looks like you have everything under control, and I'm sure you'll resist the temptation, but I have a couple of 49/49B parts kits if you need anything!

Now that's a real race car! Great job, Paul! Those kits have notoriously fragile suspensions, so your steel pin idea will probably contribute to its survival!

My favourite era, anything before wings, lol. I always thought the Lotus 49 was a beautiful car, before the horrible Gold Leaf paint job.
Salvaging that one was satisfying, it also leaves me with a new and almost complete 49B kit. I might try converting it into Rindt's Monaco winner, horrible paint and all.

She looks really good and the detail work is nicely done. One of my favorite drivers in one of my favorite cars, so I really like it.
