AMT 1989 Scott Brayton Amway Lola Buick

One last build that I managed to slide under the gun of 2023. The venerable old AMT Lola. I finished this one about 10 pm last night. But my brother was in town from Connecticut so I didn't have time to get it posted until now. This thing fought me tooth and nail as I messed up the paint job and it ended up in the purple pond 3 times before I managed a decent result. I was just my own worst enemy on this.
This was the Mario Andretti boxing as the Amway boxing is a Cosworth car and i needed the pop off in the Chevy location for the Buick. Engine came from Michael at Indycals through his Shapeways option. This just included razor sawing the Cosworth off of the transmission and then attaching the Buick, which I did by drilling and pinning. Everything else is from the kit apart from Michael's excellent decals. And I added some etched harnesses. A lot of the detail I would normally add is mostly hidden on these Buick cars as even the plug wires go forward under the headers and aren't really visible with the engine installed in the car. I did add a turbo pipe to the kit turbo. I always loved this particular livery. I did also scratch build the wing end plates to more resemble the rear wing on Brayton's 89 car. All in all I enjoyed the build despite all of my issues. I have a couple more of these kits to build eventually in different liveries.
