Me and Tamiya paints just don't get along. I thought TS-34 Camel Yellow was a fairly bright yellow. I sprayed my Wasp and it came out a dull mustard color. I guess shooting over a gray primer was a bad idea. Now I have to strip and repaint. I'm gonna try the Testors East Lift Off that Michael suggested. Buy more TS-34 and Tamiya white primer. God, I wish there was a decent hobby shop in Indy.

Using tamiya paint is very straightforward.
Clean your surface Scuff your surface Clean your surface
Always use Tamiya white primer before any color coat.
One light coat of color
2 medium coats
That's really it
Once a person understands the rules for using Tamiya paint then you'll go 15 years like I have without paint drama. I've literally not had any kind of paint drama for 15 years since understanding the fundamentals of Tamiya paint.
I'm not bragging as I spent the first 8 years of my modeling career blowing up paint jobs 😂🤐 (Testors enamel and garbage hardware store paint)

I think I might just paint it yellow and the hell with it.

I think I might just paint it yellow and the hell with it. Grab a piece of scrap plastic and try this:
Tamiya Red Oxide primer
2 light coats of TS 16 plus 1 coat Testors clear
Might be worth a shot.

How in the world did you get Tamiya Yellow to cover red oxide primer? 🤔 now this is unbelievable to me.
Why use red oxide primer? It seems like it would be working against you?
Tamiya has never covered darker colors very well.

? Tamiya has never covered darker colors very well. I think that's why mine didn't work... I put it over gray primer.

Tamiya has never covered darker colors very well. That's the point Calvin, the red does show through. It darkens the yellow and gives it a deeper shade.
I use the red oxide quite often, it causes a subtle shift in TS8 for example, making my Ferraris a more accurate blood red shade. It's also easier to work with as I find the Tamiya white primer tends to shrink and crack a bit too easily, so I avoid it if I can.

I wonder how old the paint was. I have had numerous Tamiya TS sprays go bad in the can. If they dry dull, pretty sure they are bad and no amount if shaking the can or heating it will make it better.
