Years ago Kip was working with Gary Doucette on a 70s dirt car project. Obviously Gary's passing curtailed the project. I've always loved those cars and hoped that someday someone would do a kit of one. One with a 4 cam Ford would be awesome. Just tossing it out there to see if anyone else feels the same way.

I think you might be referring to this: Whoever was selling Gary's remaining stock put this up on the 'bay with a Buy-It-Now. Had to pull the trigger, not sure if there are or were more.

Oh yeah, there are 8 intake stacks included, just didn't dig them all out for the pic! I think it might have been a pre-production sample, no axles or suspension parts included, just what you see. Will require some scratch building but all the stuff shown is pretty decent, especially the P/E grille.

As I recall, I made three of Foyt's Ford-engined dirt car --two for Gary to use as molds. Gary thought they looked too long and cut one up to shorten it (even though it was an exact match for drawings from Walt). Gary said it broke in half as he was working with it. I kept the third one . Apparently somebody had sent Gary payment for one but never got it so I sent my last body to him. I don't remember who that was
I have another body I was making for Gary--I seem to remember it was destined to be the Vels Andretti dirt car. I was close to finishing the body but when Gary died I never finished it. I enjoyed making the bodies and had planned to do more. I am not a resin caster but I would consider working with someone on a champ dirt car kit sometime. Maybe a 3D print. IRandy Short and I had a 3D print made of a 1960s sprint car (McCluskey's H&H car) using an drawing from Walt and it turned out pretty good

I just saw the post from hurtibise56. I guess that's what happened to the other body. The grill, seat and injection stacks were from my parts box. The engine heads and cam covers were included to stick out the sides of the hood and I made the push bar from brass. I thought I had included a brass roll bar.and I know I sent Gary exhaust headers and pipes. I think Gary came up with the tires and wheels. I thought I Ihad included a screen for the nose also but maybe not. Gary was going to come up with the suspension parts.

Thanks for chiming in, Kip! Speaking for myself, I would buy any other dirt cars that anyone produced. A Vel's kit would be top of my list, for sure! I became a huge fan of them after seeing them at the Syracuse Mile in the mid-1970's. Amazing cars and drivers. I feel extremely lucky to have this one, and I WILL build it someday, the required suspension parts are easy to source, scratchbuilding the other bits is not hard and I might even be able to find some better dirt tires for the rear.

I have been thinking about this lately. Yes, a Vel's kit would be very popular for sure. Anything Mario or AJ drove would be popular. I wonder how much difference there is between the Vels car and AJ's.

Don't think I posted this before. I finished this about 10 years ago. Foyt and others drove it in the 70s.

Very nice! I always liked the look created by the larger tail tank & longer wheelbase of these cars.

Man Kip...you did an outstanding job on that build. I still have to get to the Gary Benttenhausen #7 car one day....

Again, don't know if this was posted before or not. Not a 70s champ dirt car. Mid 60s.

I think I saw the white & orange car at Richmond, along with Kip's Late model Novi and some other gems. I never get tired of seeing his race cars!
