Hi all!
I’m designing the decals for the Parnelli VPJ2 that I had already presented in the thread opened by Lance for his model of the same car.
Can someone please help me identify the sticker that you see in the photo below - inside the green circles? I don’t seem to have seen it before...
Thank you in advance! Ciao!

USAC sticker, if you save the image you should be able to enlarge it.

Thank you guys! I think you’re right... It must be something like that with the words "Registered Car" on the top and "1973" on the bottom.
See you soon!

There are a trio of USAC stickers. First to appear is the Registered Car, the next one received when passing tech inspection and lastly, what is called a Final Sticker, which means the car is the eligible to qualify. The trio were put on at various times as the month progressed. All three are similar size but completely unique in shape and appearance.

Again: thank you guys! Honestly, I didn’t know about the particular use of these three stickers. I don’t want to make it too complicated, but my intention would be to reproduce the version with which Mario won his only race of the season in Trenton. The "USAC - Registered Car" sticker I think has always remained the same, but also the other two in your opinion have kept a similar look or may have had a different shape (round rather than rectangular or triangular, for example...) or be applied in different positions in the Trenton race than Indy?

My comments were for Indy only. I would say only the registration sticker would have been at Trenton, IMO.

Hi all. As promised, I post some photos to update you about the work on the model. Start with a couple of photos of the printed pieces still raw (already shown in the thread of the VPJ2 opened by Lance).
I thought I’d start construction from the cockpit. In the first two boxes here is the brass construction of the rib that supports the instruments and the steering wheel. In box 3 the pieces (still rough) that make up the steering wheel and the column. In box 4 almost all the pieces that make up the cockpit before gluing them in place.
The cockpit is finished. The instrument panel is made with a decal that reproduces the dials to which were applied little photoetched rings that simulate the frames in relief and give more realism.
The upper side of the nose, very thin, was made with a sheet of evergreen 0.25 mm. thick.
Fearing that the evergreen was too fragile to realize the other details of the nose (which on the real car are made of thin sheet metal) I used a brass sheet.
The various pieces glued in place. Also for this model, as for the Lola T800, I used small pieces of brass sheet to complete the NACA air intakes on the fairing of the cockpit and leave them open.
After spraying the primer.
Construction of the rear wing.
After painting and applying decals. For the thin gold stripes that separate the white from the red I used two strips of decals. The chrome "Dzus clips" on the fairing and the nose are very realistic small chrome decals made by Tameo.
With the rear wing, only stuck but not yet glued, to have a preview of the final appearance.
That’s all for today... But the work to do is still long...
See you soon! Ciao!
Diego
