Katherine Legge. I've liked her since her Atlantic days. She had the guts to corner Kevin Kalkoven when he visited Cosworth and talk (impress) her way into a ride. Not the greatest qualifier and not always in the best machinary, but had a great year in Atlantics and a couple of great years driving an Acura NSX for Michael Shank Racing. Mike

Shirley Muldowney. Three NHRA Top Fuel titles. She wasn't the first female racing driver, but so far she has been the best.

My current favorite is an up-and-coming driver. I first learned about her over a year ago she won the winter shoot-out for the W-Series and it was her first time ever diving a car after winning so much in Go-Karts. She grew up in a very middle-class family in the Philippines and is completely obsessed with racing. She's knowledgeable about the history of the sport Her dream is to race in F1. Very well-spoken, EXTREMELY smart, very good at art, she works out twice a day. She had to round up the money on her own with the help of her manager (No rich parents as she always points out) She is currently enrolled in Mechanical Engineering in college. But I've watched her grow very fast in the W-series last year, then race in the Indian Racing League during the fall, then have some great growth during the UAE F4 championship last Jan/Feb and got hired on with one the best F4 teams with Prema Racing for the inaugural F1 academy series this year. Watch for Bianca Bustamante to make a name for herself

If we are doing drag racers. Brittany Force. A Two time Top Fuel champ. Plus she and John had an appearance on the Adam Carolla Show last summer which was pretty funny.

My new favorite is IMSA driver Ashton Harrison. I met her and her team mate Mario Farnbacher on Thursday in Long Beach when IMSA had their cars on display for the public in the shopping area just outside the track. Since it was a non-event day I was in 'me-mode' vs "Indycals mode" and I was wearing a Rammstein shirt (for those of you who don't know I saw Rammstein five times last summer - including a trip to Berlin for my first show). Ashton saw my shirt and blurted out that they love Rammstein. I asked Mario where in Germany he's from and he said Nurnburg and I mentioned that I passed through there on my way to Berlin to see them. He said he's going to see them in Budapest this summer. Had a brief exchange with them on twitter where Ashton said they listen to Rammstein every race morning. Saw them again Saturday in the paddock (unfortunately Ashton crashed at the end of quals and they couldn't repair the car for the race), and then at breakfast on Sunday. I told Mario that he needs to get tickets for both Budapest shows because once he sees them he will want to see them again. Ashton never saw them but plans to next time they come to the US (which unfortunately isn't very often and they were just here last summer) and that her husband enjoys them as well.
My all-time fave is Lyn St James whom I built a Secret Mustang for a couple years ago. Saw her Saturday when we were having breakfast and said hello to her and introduced her to my wife. She is one of the best ambassadors motorsports has ever had.

Also want to give a nod to Janet Guthrie. When you hear her talk she is very monotone, but she has a wicked sense of humor. She'll be talking seriously and then say something that will just make you LOL.

Now if you had a decal set for her Merkur I would build it too!

I always had a ton of respect for Sarah Fisher…maybe not the greatest female driver, but an outstanding ambassador for the sport… Had her own team and now drives The Pace Car… Also, some kid named “Newgarden” got his start in Indycar with her team because she signed him for 3 years (instead of the usual rookie 1 year deal)…so she could tell talent when she saw it…

I hear you on Sarah Tim... Here's a cool pic of the 3... ALL THREE are great Ambassadors to racing, for sure.

I remember being in the stands for the 2002 Michigan 400. When she took the lead late in the race, the crowd exploded. I have never heard a cheer like that before or since. And yes, the sport owes much to her for the faith she placed in Josef.

I 'm currently restoring Mouton's '82 Portugal winning Audi in my shop right now. That plus I did a little rallying myself makes me a little bias.

I’ve always liked Simona De Silvestro, she seemed to always have more talent than her cars and her guts in qualifying for the 2011 race will always be remembered with great respect.
All-time, I’m also a fan of Janet Guthrie, Lyn St. James, Denise McCluggage, and Maria Theresa de Filippis.

Since several of you have brought up non-current lady racers, I have to bring up Betty Skelton (yes, I'm that old!) Although she is no longer with us, her spirit lives on with every lady racer in the USA today. She was the ground breaker, both in autos and aviation. Only superstition kept her from Indy, where I'm sure she would have succeeded Betty was, after all, the first woman to be granted a competition license by the AAA. Oh, by the way, Lyn St.James may not be behind the wheel, but she is very much still involved in motorsports, what with her pride and joy, the Women In Winner Circle Foundation, and a member of NASCAR-s board of appeals. Sarah Fisher, of course, is still with CHF Racing, as sponsorship development. Sarah dismissed being a woman driver with her belief that a car doesn't know if it's being driven by a man or a woman.

I called that one again. (Humble brag) Bianca won her first race in Spain a couple of weeks ago and she got SO much attention for it. All her social media blew up. Her Tiktok before her win was at 300K and since then it's just a few hours away from 600K followers. I started following her on TikTok when she only had 3k. But she was all over the news in the Philippines and actually on some local news stations here believe it or not. Then someone paid to put her up on the biggest electronic billboard in Manila. No one still knows who paid to put that up. Then the president of the Philippines sent her a message

I am literally shocked that there is no Milka Duno or Danica Patrick? Actually no kidding aside any woman or man that straps himself in a racing automobile has my respect. Some are just not all that good and should have never been given the opportunity. But they still get my respect.
