Really sad to hear this. As a teenager in the ‘60’s, I was a big fan and always excited to see his next project. I was so happy to see the original Spirit a number of years ago in Chicago. Certainly the last of his era.

RIP Craig. One very nice gentleman and brave speed record pioneer. I had the extreme pleasure of meeting Craig and talking with him at length while we stood in victory lane at the USAC 150 mile race at Phoenix in 1965. This was shortly after he went over 600 MPH, 600.601 to be exact. He gave a poster signed Craig Breedlove, 600.601 to a friend and I. Good race, won by AJ in his Ford powered Lotus. I have to say though, the highlight of the day was the time spent with Craig Breedlove.

Man what a bummer. He and the Spirit are icons of motorsport.

Growing up Craig Breedlove was an American Hero, when he dumped the Spirt of America Jet Car in the water at Bonneville it was front page news. When he set new records with various cars it was front page news. I found this extremely rare Sonic 1 kit about 1/40th scale I think by Nitto, I started the build and got this far, only things left are front windshield, the kit piece doesnt even fit and some very difficult pinstripe. I pull it out once and a while and attempt to finish it but have yet to find the right combination. Sad that Craig's latest car was never finished due to lack of funds but to me He will always be an American Hero.. Chris

A little bit of his legacy: Officially, first to 400, 500 and 600 mph.
