Were there any changes made to the Batmobile that Danny Ongais drove in the 500 in 1982 compared the version he drove in 1981 (other than the obvious based on the accident). I am trying to see whether the two are identical or whether it makes sense to build both versions. Thanks very much.

The under tray of the 82 car extends farther forward, the 82 car also has a small air scoop just to the inside of the right rear tire, that is all the external changes. 1981 1982

If indy car’s spec car plan was going to last ten years, as it did, I wish they had settled on this design rather than the DW 🤔

One of my favorite resin Indy car kits. Had a great time building this one.

I am no engineer but if you look at it, it is pretty close to today's Indy car design. It's a little more bulky but whoever the designer was back then was on to something a little ahead of his time. 50 years ahead.

It was based on the PJ-1 Parnelli - Porsche -Interscope car that was kicked out of the 1980 500 when Indy car changed the engine rules to make the Porsche engine illegal. I read that the engine was way faster than any of the other Teams and no one wanted to try and beat it so they outlawed it. So they used the chassis which was more than competent and designed new body work. I dont know if this was considered a BLAT design or if they just copied what was AAR-Gurney's new car.
