This arrived prior to the solstice celebrations so just getting some time on task. The fineness of printing is shown in the louverson the front fenders. See through! And vents in rear deck I’ve begun filling in the missing bodywork under the intakes. I assume the little strands on the vents are an artifact of the printing process.

Ridges on body. I assume are artifact of printing process. And ridges in footwell. And here Very small tubing. The material is quite brittle.

Front wheel not seated completely. Front width of 3D slightly greater as is front track. Same at the rear. Vents behind tires slightly different in proportions

Some initial thoughts, Lots of strand removal and sanding of ridges anticipated. Drilling through wheel center and into axle with a long pin for strength: brittle Windscreen from plastic packaging pile. Decals from Michael for #23 RC Cola car driven by Charlie Kemp in 1973. Lightly spraying so as to not clog vents.

I've never worked with a 3-D printed kit, so curiosity prompts me to ask, will you be able to remove those strings in the intakes with a knife blade and sanding, or is the material too brittle to cut?

I haven't worked on one yet, either, but hope to soon. I have some micro saw blades that attach to my scalpel handles that I think would be perfect for this task. If Paul is comfortable enough with his Dremel, that's great, but I tend to get carried away with mine!

If you use a saw, make sure it's ultra fine, the stuff tends to shatter just when you don't expect it. A knife won't do squat, and cutters tend to break more than you intended. Also depends on the medium they use, there's a lot of variation.
Happy new year guys.
ps: I honed my Dremel skills on polishing and porting 1:1 cylinder heads, plastic models are a lot trickier, lol.

This is my first 3D. It’s as much modeling fun for me as my first vac-form car or resin kit (both from John Johnson- Teapot Graphics) or my first Etzel. New concepts, new materials. Very refreshing. There was a bump to remove under the rear just behind the duct. I used this to remove it. Like so with very light pressure. The thinner strands were clipped using that rare and exotic tool, a #11 blade. See y’all next year. . .

I got my copy of this kit and I have adjusted all my 917-10 decals to better fit it, and I've also added a 1/12 scale option for their 1/12 version of this kit. I am also sending them some 1/12 prints of some of the other cars they do so they can test fit them.

Assembly was straightforward. A windscreen was not included, so I found a shape from the clear plastic packaging pile that might work. And cutout. And attached A coat of Future and some minor trimming will neaten the look. I hope.

So after a bit of thought I’m back at it. Michael had mailed a decal sheet immediately following my order. I later got a message from him that I also would receive another sheet, better fitted to this kit. So two sheets. Thank you Michael! The decal film is very thin so care is required. I am applying in sections to avoid messing up one area while working on another.

Since I have the luxury of extra material, I am a little less concerned with making an unrepairable error. However, me being me, anything could happen. . . At the rear, I placed the stripes over the vents and tried to push them into the gaps with a water filled small brush. When everything seemed ok, I added straight Solvaset. And waited. When dry, the following. Looking closely the viewer will observe that; 1 the decal film partially dissolved and 2 some bubbling occurred that I should have dealt with before complete drying by puncturing. That however is problematic in that the Solvaset softened material being thin would stick to the blade. This view shows a look under the vents. The thin material folded nicely over the vent and ,dissolving, opened a nice gap with both sections covered. If I can get that effect on the front fender vents I’ll be happy. Cutting the material over the vents with a sharp blade before Solvaset may be an answer. You will notice that I’ll have four small areas on the front fenders to deal with rather than two large ones so alignments and so forth should be easier. I’ll no doubt need to do touch up here and there, so a paint question. There’s always paint questions. What blue would be closest? I’m leaning toward Testor 1208 but am open to suggestion.

Looking good so far! Decaling louvers is a real pain, but yours are going to look fine when done. Slitting will help, IMO. Gotta get one of these! From your pics I would guess a mix of 1208 & 1210 will be required.

AJ Foyt was quoted by Robin Miller in regard to something or other as saying it was “teejus”. That accurately describes this operation.

The finished Por-sha TS23 was quite close to use for touch up for the stripes. Michael’s decal sheet fit perfectly.

Back in the day my paper route took me past an old fashioned grocery with a penny candy counter. On collection days, with a pocketful of cash, I would stop in for a large bottle of RC and a dozen or so licorice sticks to sustain me through the rest of the route. I haven’t had either one since. . . .
