Things seems to be looking up for Indycar for car counts and like for next year. Some of this seems to be at the expense of the ALMS series. This what what I hear so far:
de Faren is supposed to be moving a 2 car team with Simon Pagenou and another driver yet to be named.
Adrian Fernandez is supposed to be running at least one car next year. I don't anything about drivers.
Another one car team is supposed to go with Tag as its driver.
Article about Alan McNish not driving much since Audi is not running in ALMS. Its kind of "pie in the sky" but who know?
Anything else in the works or expand/correct anything I already noted?

I am interested to see how De Ferran the car owner does.... I was pretty shocked at that announcement but he seems to be building a nice little team there. I hadn't heard about Adrian's plans but... um, I've never been much of a fan of his over the years anyway It would be nice to see Tags back running, he's not the best but I think he can certainly earn/deserve a seat. I thought the same thing about the McNish - sounding like fishing to me but having on the grid would be good for IndyCar I think ;D I'd like to see Penske run a third car for Power in '10. That black Verizon car was SEXY - I'd love to see it back next year full time! Since Tony, Marco, and Danica are set - I'd also like to see a different 4th driver at AGR - just never thought much of Mutoh even though he's show flashes of improvement this year. Oh and I'd like to see the Coyne and Panther teams pull some big name crew guys onto those teams so they can mix it up more in 2010. Jordan

McNish would bring some credibility to the sport if we could get him. I hope we can get back to the point where we have retiring F1 drivers move over. It would be great to see Rubens come run IndyCar.
I've heard Tukumo Sato's name tossed around maybe as a second seat for De Farren or replacing Mutoh.
I don't know if I've heard of a single additional American name tossed around. Too bad really. It too bad that the USF1 effort thinks it find a good American to drive F1 but IndyCar can't.

I was wondering the other day if..if Nascar was as big back in the 80's as it is now..would guys like Rick Mears (who was one of my personal favorites back then) would move over to Nascar as so many Indy car guys have done...or would like to do? It was very cool back then to see Al Unser Jr. or AJ Foyt to run the Daytona race or run at Talledega in the Nascar races but still stay fully commited to Indy racing..I really miss those days. I was watching a 1987 Indy 500 dvd I had...and from pos 1 to 33, there were "stars" in the field...I mean every driver was a favorite...not just a "grid filler" but a very good chance any of the 33 could win.....these days, I feel only 10 drivers in the field really has a shot, if that many. I hope that changes...

Ron's comment,
To me the 1967 500 was the best ever for this reason: Taking the eventual records of the starting field you had represented: 20 Indy 500 victories: 10 formula One Championships and 3 NASCAR championships! PLUS 17 chassis/engine combinations! That would be like Helio vs. Johnson vs. Hamilton vs. Dario vs. E jr. vs. Kimi etc. all in one race!! Will that ever happen in today's world? I think not.

Well the first step to having NASCAR guys at Indy is fixing the start time of the 500. I think Tim Cendric asked about that at the last IRL meeting with the teams. I'd like to see that multi-series aspect again as the cheers for Tony in 2001 when I last went to Indy were the loudest of any driver. Getting F1 guys would be much harder these days with Monte Carlo running that same morning.... but let's just fix the easy stuff first! Jordan

There is a rumor going around Indy that a sponsor (identity unknown) is going to offer $10 million for the daily double win. IMS is considering moving the start time back to 11am.

I really hope you guys are right in your hopes for inproved racing next year. What I see is, bigger car counts, continued dominance by Roger and Chip on the ovals, and the same follow the leader crap on the road tracks. Oh and more blocked tracks at the stupid street races. I watched that clip of the 67 Riverside race. It was great to see multiple engines and cars, and no red tires and " push to keep the other guy behind you".

I agree Professor...those were the good days of racing! I think the double headers always add to the Indy 500 too...I love seeing John Andretti or Tony Stewert do the double...I use to make a whole day of watching racing, both for the 500 and the 600..I still do, for that matter..I just always liked when one of the drivers was doing a double...it was always interesting to see how they did in both races. I think Indy racing will come around again...it just needs attention again and some sponsers to step in...I think Nascar is losing its luster, IMO, and maybe that will boost to sponsership to go elsewhere like Indy.....I wish some of those big sponsers would get back in Indy..I miss all the 'oil' cars and the 'beer' cars etc....those guys need to get back to the 500.

Ron...just to add my two cents worth....
NASCAR is dying of a self inflicted gun shot wounds and lousy FOX SPORTS television coverage. Silly rule changes and this driving to one of the final 12 is very dumb!....and only FOX Sports can something as good as the old NASCAR Races and make them boring. Not to mention "Digger Cam" which is flat out moronic, well, not has bad as the announcer laughing every time that rodent shows up on the screen.
Two things to remember about "The Good Old Days"...most of the time they weren't that good but they were that old. I'd like to see more chassis and different engine packages back at Indy. I'd also like to see front engine race cars back at Indy, but that won't happen. I think and feel todays cars are "butt ugly!" But I once said, it they ran the 500 on wombats, I'd watch it and try to build one.
Best to you
Russ
