Skip my ramblings to get to the good stuff. Another flea market/antique mall find. My wife enjoys going and I've scored several kits now. If I keep finding these for cheap I'm going to continue building them.
Stress free build (mostly) out of box. These old Nascar kits are always surprisingly good. This one even came with tire decals, seat belt decals, window net Simpson decal and Butlerbuilt seat decals. Nice little touches for realism. And styrene ignition wires! that was a first for me. Not quite as convincing as adding your own wiring but if I had built this as a kid I would've been giddy about that. I just added some gauge decals to the instrument cluster and everything else is OOB.
I always thought the Cartoon Network liveries were cool. Such a fun sponsor to have around for getting kids interested and having whacky schemes. Particularly dig the scalloped 9s on this car. Also was happy to build a Lake Speed model. My father raced karts against Lake, (and lost, like everyone else) and I was always a fan after he talked to Dad and I at practice for the first Brickyard. Very cool guy.
The kit built up smoothly enough but once again, the ancient Revellogram decals fought me tooth and nail. with much decal softener and hot water I managed to hammer them somewhat into shape and I'm happy where this build ended up.
Thanks for looking. Next up, I ditch fenders again and head back to the Indy 500.
