Not an M24. An M23 F1 chassis heavily modified to compete in the 1975 Indy 500, just for fun. (Since there are no 1/12th indycar kits, I figured I'd build my own)
Base chassis is an M23 I got from Brian which was much better than he said it was - cleaned up quite well! Front suspension was modified to a true rocker arm, fuel tank enlarged, rear bulkhead modified. Cowling and rear wing/oil tank from a Lotus 72 that Patrick kindly donated a while back. Rear suspension part Lotus, Honda driveshafts.
Offenhauser courtesy of Texas3DCustoms, highly recommended they make great stuff, turbo from Shapeways, everything else scratch built. Other than tread on the tires (I'm working on slicks for it), finished. We'll call it the Covid Special (thanks Kyle! lol), I've been sicker than a dead dog for 2 weeks.
Not meant to offend the purists, but sometimes a little creative license is what the doctor ordered.
cheers
Paul

I love the creativity. It’s nice to be able to have a little fun and build something exactly how you want. And I’d say imaginary Indy 500 entrants are a perfect area to exercise some creative license. After all, especially in those days there were endless combinations of chassis’s (homemade or otherwise) and engines, I love it. And I hope you’re feeling better Paul or at least headed the right direction now.

Hey Paul, hope you're over the hump and feeling better! That thing looks great, glad the trashed McLaren was something you could use. One more race this Saturday (10/22) and I can park the racer and get back to some modeling.

We just parked the sprint car for the year. Time to go through the engines in both the pavement and dirt car now.

Kyle, it's the vintage dirt modified in my avatar. A replica of a car I saw as a 10 year old kid at a long defunct local track. Real car: My replica: FINALLY resolved an ignition issue, last race on 10/08 won going away, lapped 3rd place with 2 to go, had more than a straight on 2nd place! More apologies to Paul, when I get more time (soon) I'll post up a thread with more pics of it.

With apologies to Paul one more time for the hi Jack, that’s awesome! I saw your avatar but just guessed it was a photo of a vintage mod. Didn’t realize it was yours that you race. Very cool. Good luck in your last race. I’d love to see a thread with more photos.
And Paul, again, great work on the Indycar. It’s fantastic.

Hey, stop apologizing.
I'll hijack my own thread.
Brian likes to make fun of Gremlins. Actually he likes to chop them up. Which is a joke between us as I love Gremlins.
1973, my ex and I bought a Gremlin X, our first brand new car. 304 V8 2bbl with a 3 speed manual. It had it's faults, mostly being it lacked a few gears. So we swapped in a Warner T10 4 speed. This led to a GM limited slip 411 diff. Which led to a Holley aluminum manifold and 600 4 BBl (yes, Holley intake). Which led to me custom building a set of headers and true dual exhausts, and KYB shocks and lowering the whole car about 1 1/2" and BFG T/A's on Keystones.......... It was quite a nice Gremlin.
Fast forward a few decades, I built another Gremlin:
It's not a street rod. It's a Trans/Am race car underneath:
Don't feed it after midnight.
cheers guys

That’s awesome Paul. The real Gremlin X and the model build. Gremlins are cool little cares. I’m guessing that Gremlin was pretty sporty with those upgrades! Reminds me of a story my old boss told me. He was young and carefree and had bought a 69 SS Camaro with a 350 for $1.25 and some pocket lint, as you did back then when they were only used cars. Well a gremlin pulled up next to him at a stop light and seemed like he wanted to race. My old boss laughed, because Gremlin…and the guy proceeded to drive away from him when the light changed. 😂😂 He said he considered selling the camaro that minute.

Just my luck, I've been down with Covid this week, may (probably will) miss the last race this Saturday. The kicker is the track it's at is the first track I ever raced at and has been in continuous operation for 72 years, it's closing and being sold to developers. Also, the guy whose car I replicated was maybe going to attend with me, he never won a race there, altho he won at every other track he ever raced at and I was hoping to win and dedicate it to him. Will test Friday night and decide. Been working on the car in short shifts and should be able to have it ready. Was hoping to avoid the virus until the next round of boosters, oh well!

Well, sh*t, tested positive (again) this AM, won't be racing after all. Feel OK, except for my back. Over did it yesterday getting the car and truck ready and loaded. Sure wanted to be there, oh well. Pack it all away until next year.

Damn that’s a bummer. Ironically our last race of the year was also unexpectedly cancelled when our driver got T-boned in the race hauler. Also messed his back up. Hope you get feeling better quick Brian!

Thanks, Gary & Kyle! I guess that's the worst part is I DON'T feel bad at all. Flu symptoms and fever for two days, runny nose for a day and now, not too bad. Just a positive test!

Thanks, Paul! Still feeling pretty good, but yesterday taste and smell started to go away! Hope they are back by the holidays, Italian relatives, you know! Hate to miss all the fun of the feasts!
I wish we had some 1/12 Indy Eagle chassis to put that Offy into!

I wish we had some 1/12 Indy Eagle chassis to put that Offy into! You and me both man. A 1/12th Eagle would be like the holy grail but it'll never happen, too expensive and not enough people would buy it. I'd like a Brian Redman Lola F5000 car in 1/12th, won't be getting that either.
I can relate to the food, I have Italian friends . Get well soon!
