What is a good blue color to use for his 1961 Indy 500 entry?

It is the same light metallic blue as the 1960 Rathmann winner, in fact, it is the same car.

Hi all, Don't mean to be picky, but Len's 1961 car was not the 1960 Rathmann winner. Rathmann drove his 1960 winner in 1961 as the Simoniz Spl. as I recall. Sutton's 1961 S & R Spl. was a sort of medium blue. His first Leader Card ride was a metalliuc blue similar to the Rathmann car, but it was not the same car. Don't know if this helps. Hope so.

Best wishes on your project. And, I apologize, I see that you asked about 1961, my fault. The 1961 car was a robins egg blue, non metallic. There is a large Bryant poster of the car, which I suggest using as your reference. My late uncle, Bob Sowle, was crew chief. Again, best wishes.

You might want to check with the IMS Photo Department to see if there are color shots of the car. SWT500 is correct that it is not metallic but getting the right hue of blue could be tricky. I don't think it was toward the blue/green side but rather a medium blue. Hard to remember since it was 60 years ago. Good luck. Jim

Photos of this car on Google, just search by Len Sutton roadster. It’s owned by Tom Malloy.
