IMSA AAR Toyota Celica GTO

I am announcing my next project. The mid 80’s All American Racers IMSA Toyota Celica GTO. As of now, this will be a semi kit using the basic frame from the Revell-Monogram IMSA kits from the late 80’s. I still have a lot of details that need to be worked out in designing this model. I have only seen one kit ever produced for this car and that was a starter kit in 1/43 scale which was a very basic curb side model. I do plan on producing at least the interior for my kit along with the main body that will fit on the frame. More details will follow in the upcoming week as the design progresses. I am very excited about this next venture knowing that open wheel cars has always been my go to project. Looking back at the history of this car, many talented driver drove it, a lot of races were won, along with championships. So it has a great pedigree. Right now I am gathering as much information as I can before physically starting any masters for the kit. Will keep you posted.

I was at Riverside when these cars ran, I spent a couple of hours with Dan , Gene Hackman ( co- driving it that day) Teddy Yip ( richest man in the world then and big AAR supporter), Phil Conte ( RC Cola Buick March 84 owner) Al Holbert, and some guy named Foyt. What a blast they were having a good time taking pot shots at Foyt's co-driver Mario Andretti because he wouldnt come out of trailer...too many Celebs I guess... I had a bunch of pics on this car but of course are long lost. It was at the Peterson museum for a long time but I have lost track of it. Great subject to model.. Chris
