I was able to obtain the footage and find some new information in the Sallee family archives last night and I have the technology now to enhance the video of my dad's first career stock car race victory and add a few details to it.
Description: Watch a young Tom Sallee take on the rough and tough mountain men of Eastern Oregon to get his first career win with a thrilling last-lap win, driving the #72 Blue 1972 Camaro sponsored by Sallee Chevrolet.

yeah my dad thought Mike Fregulia was going to kill him after the race 🏁 😳 🤣 making that bump n' run on the last lap. Dad's Camaro was SCREAMING on the straights. It was pretty rough and tough back in "them days". There was also a little high banked dirt track deep in the woods in Elgin Oregon which my dad grew up at. It has this 20° high banked 1/4 dirt track and there was no wall and if you got tangled going into turn 3 you would fly out of the track and crash into the river right outside the track. Lol

Great history there Calvin. What a huge Trophy. Does your Dad still have that Camaro? It sure looked clean for a dirt car....and it looked really fast on the straights.

Unfortunately no, my dad's brother sold it (family politics) to someone, who took the engine out and amazingly one of my good friends bought it and currently has it safely stored away back in my old hometown.

Ha ha! The old man "leaned" on him! Actually, it looks like they rubbed wheels and the wheels pulled them both to the right. Day time dirt tracks really get dusty. Good job!

I thought the same thing Bobby. It looked like they got hooked together and veered right. It kinda looked weird...

Duane Lol 😂 could be...I just know little Calvin would play with his Nascar and NHRA toys on the carpet while dad watched them on TV. My dad said he should have done asphalt racing instead of going to this small fairgrounds dirt track that was almost a demo derby. The guys that raced at the fairgrounds were tough old logger guys and they didn't like this young punk Sallee with a nice clean racecar with dealership money going and taking their glory away from them. Lol
